I was referring to the Big 6 race at the beginning of March. Not sure which one Dennis was talking about.

Big 6 it is, first weekend of March at Glen Helen. IMHO GP's are a lot easier than desert races. Imagine racing on established trails rather than going flat out in open desert - a lot safer and you still have fun because it's competition.

Because they moved Vet races to Saturday I will have to race on Sunday, lucky Race 13 at 12:45pm - Novice Heavyweight.

I will also race unclassified at 7:30am to get familiar with the course. Usually I manage at least 3-4 laps before the checker flag drops, and it really helps in the main race.

Racing another race before your event - good idea. I hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll do that to and see if I can get a finish.

Mike, in the 'riders handbook' on the D37 offroad members tools page I read that you have to finish at least half of the laps as the winner or else it's a DNF. Is that wrong? Believe me, the senior experts are more than twice as fast as I am. Maybe I'll try to block them

How do the points work? If I raced the Senior race (#12) and the HWT Novice (#14) would I get points in both? And would I be placed according to my specific D37 class (Sen Hwt Nov?)

You will only get points for the class that you hold a license in. So if you don't have a GP lic, you will pie plate and receive desert points. Now, here is where it gets fun. Say you enter your class in a GP (Sr hwt nov?), and you finish in say tenth. When you look at the results you need to pay attention to how many guys hold desert licenses, and thats what you will receive in points. If you are the only desert guy, you potentially could get first desert points. And trust me, people bitch about this all the time.

Also, which handbook are you looking in? I think (not positive) that they changed the rule, pretty sure they did for Euro's anyway. If a euro goes three loops and you only do one, you will still get a finish.

I am planning on riding Glen Helen, P-Dogs is a pretty fun race, then I am going to pack up and head out to Barstow for Kudlas race on Sunday.

PS, I think you only have to do 50% of the winner of YOUR class.

You're right Mike - it is the winner of *my* class. I think I can handle that.

You know, I looked at the Barstow race and thought it would be fun. Are you on a team or running solo?

GP's are suuuuper fun. If you dont hurt yourself on the jumps, they are a ton of fun. and SOOO many good riders, you cant help but improve a bit in the process. Highly recommended.

I actually grew a pair and tried a couple of the doubles this last time and thankfully it worked out

Teaming up with Don Campbell, fellow Lost Coyote and former V1 plate holder. Planning to handoff every 50 miles.

Nice - good luck. I was thinking of doing the iron man but probably going to experience my first GP instead. Besides, it took me almost 6 hours to go 80 miles last weekend. I'm sure it's easier terrain but I'm so slow... ;). Maybe another one later on. Good luck!

thats VERY interesting.... I did not know that. It certainly supports the idea of riders diversifying the types of races they do
