Nothing like rubbing it in...
Looks like you are having a good time.

Cheers.

Not Always Quite So Sunny

More typical February day today, cloudy, cool, no rain. Took the Dub up to Hansville and Point No Point for a quick run. These photos are mostly looking north towards Whidbey Island and a little east. If this would have been as sunny as a couple of days ago, Mt Baker and Mt Shuksan would have been in the photos, though quite a ways away.

The water is the Puget Sound, north of Seattle.

Looking back towards the Point No Point lighthouse, in the far background. It's just a light on top of a regular-looking house. A couple of surface-search maritime radars on on the towers.

I'd never heard of a "speed table" before. Much more fun to go fast over than a speed bump!!

There's a small park on the waterfront at Hansville, with three beach cabins decorated with signal flag paintings . . . no don't remember the flag names and didn't look them up!

A gray kind of day . . .

Looking north towards the Freeland area of Whidbey Island. (I was stationed at the Naval Air Station on the north end of the island in the late '70's, attached to an A-6 Intruder squadron. Good times.

Small RLD's in Silverdale and Bremerton. Big kahuna in Seattle . . . . but the DC area still got the "worst traffic in the US" award last year!

Not sure where the right forum to ask is. I don't do much off road, but would like to find some trails to start getting more enjoyment out of the RS. If anyone can PM me (or post, your preference) accessible trails in NOVA, that's be great. I'm in Stafford.

thanks,

Antonio

Welcome...some rides are posted here: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=472407 and reviewing past rides can get you some ideas.

Some gravel/forest roads, for at least a start point, look 'em up on Google Maps:

1: Try the area around Broad Run to Middleburg, VA. area.: Bust Head Road, Bull Run Mountain Road, Logmill road...

2: Shoot west toward the area of Detrick, VA and Fort Valley. Try Crisman Hollow Road, St. Davids Church, Woodstock Tower Road....

All of these are improved, graded, packed gravel roads. No special tires/bike armor needed. GENERALLY suitable if DRY for a street bike or a dual sport and a rider of any level at sane speed.

OK, tease on!!

Seriously, for those who've been to the Puget Sound region, you know that the weather is maritime. Often cloudy (especially in the winter) and damp. The Bremerton area gets about 45-50" of rain in a normal year, about the same as some parts of Virginia. But Virginia's rain often comes in drenching thunderstorms and rain, where here it's often a persistent (very persistent!) light rain and drizzle. So I just had to take advantage of that sunny day!

The photo's below and the Dubya pictures are more normal for this time of year . . . but it's still gorgeous to me!

Hood Canal bridge from Kitsap to the Olympic Peninsula. It's not really a canal, it's almost a fjord. There's no passage out at the southern end. Bangor Submarine Base is just a ways down the Canal, and about 5 minutes from my house.

Another view . . .

Port Gamble, an old Pope and Talbot company logging and mill town, well preserved and now a minor tourist destination. About a half hour from my house.

Looking west with the same Hood Canal Bridge in the far background.

Evening Colors in the Port Gamble cemetery . . . .

10 miles south in Bremerton!!

But that Brewery (Silver City http://www.silvercitybrewery.com/ ) has a restaurant just a mile away, with all of their good stuff on tap!

If any of you show up here while I'm in town, I'll buy the first one . . . (but only if SweetBird will drive us home afterwards)!

ORex -- like the pics, especially the evening colors cemetery. Very well done!

If we didn't know you better, we might think you were stockpiling tag pics. . ..
