I caught up to the smoking Bonnie, but turn 4 ( in the clip) had been 'patched' and it had tar snakes on my preferred line and the BMW got a bit squiggly in that corner ....and the hairpin. They stopped the practice on Friday due to tar bleed.

Old Bonnie ride was a seasoned campaigner as he swept past on the infield on turn 3, and 4 and was able to hold speed down the straight...... so I went deeper into turn 6 past on the outside and held him off on the hill, thru turn 1 and 2 and 3 until that clip again where he passed me.Was great fun....a tail end battle.
I caught up with him later with his gearbox all in bits and he said something like " you got me on speed"...
In the next race I caught up to what turned out to be a Norton 850, passed him on turn 6 on the outside and had a real race on to the finish where it was very close.... He said he backed off as he only had drum brakes. ( the finish line is very close to turn 1)

Some pics from the port races

New Norton. I had a chat to the guy who owned it. He said he got his fairly quickly (maybe 9mnths or so IIRC) becaus he wasn't worried about a warantee or road kit etc - he just wanted it to thrash around on the track. his other reason for not wanting a road kit was that he wouldn't get left alone if he took it out. - I kicked the ground a few times & sauntered off...

Sound of thunder coming up soon down here.

Well that was an interesting year.
Old 146 is now tucked away in the shed until next months outing to Taupo for Level 3 Superbike School.

Lasts me a 3 day weekend...... its no fuss...... and I can just switch it off when the start is delayed and the like.

Long term maybe...but its not like me and beamer are at the pointy end....

Anyway working on the 500 now.

that and pick up an R100RT and an R90/6....... gonna be a busy one.

I woke up on Monday in Taupo and it was raining..... drove to the track and got the R90 checked out and ready to go.
Started off with a lesson on " the hook turn" and then went out in the damp to practice it. The R90 was running a bit rough, came in and Sid who has just build up a R90s track bike came and helped. We suspected water in carbs, drained them and back out....it seemed better.....one lap in and the back felt squidgy and I pulled off the track....flat tyre......bugger.
They came an collected me, but the tyre guys had no tubes either....double bugger.......

They had no bikes to hire and I was bolloxed......
Hmmmm, I did just pick up a 3 owner 1976 R90 with 66 k on the clock from Waikanae that I bought sight unseen and have never even started.....I wonder......

" Another old BMW..."

" bring it in and we'll have a look"
nek minit....

Apart from the Dunlop K70's of unknown age and the rear looking a bit squared off it went well......clutch and brakes protested a bit......
The BMW performed pretty well, using the skill tought it cornered pretty well I thought for a bike with soft suspension.....its all in the throttle control and rider body position.
Once the track dried it was awesome....I forgot how old and horrible the tyres were and just dropped it into those corners, and Taupo sure has a lot, especially the full track.
There was a photographer there who took some pics of it too.

My van lost its alt/pwr steering belt at Turangi and it was a fun no power steering trip back to Auckland.... 1300 km round trip......man I was knackered.
Thinking of Superbike School ...just do it...there were all sorts there from GN 250's to MV Augustas

So you definitely weren't on the least suitable bike there. I spotted a DR650 & a Harley...Lucky you were packing a spare bike. What's the plan with the new R90 going forward? I'm guessing that's what squeezed out the R65.

After riding the R90 to work for the last few days, I realise how good the R65 is as a commuter, its so much more nimble and being post 81 its got a better shift and revs more.
Just going to give it a going over and do the maintenance on it as its a sweetie.
I was behind the Harley for a while....its looked painful to ride. I have only ridden a cruiser bike once, a Guzzi Cali.....they are not for me...or my back.
How are you coming along....taking it easy?

Trying to decide if it's too early to go for an easy ride yet. Haven't been for a ride since 25th Nov and am hanging out for it...

I have an RT I'm converting to an S.

I have a Gold Valve Fork valve and Race Tech springs and am putting on some Rear Wilbers and was hoping it would really help it out for riding around Town. It's a '92.

I figured your 90 would be a handler since you race a lot.

I bought an 89 R100Rt just before the R90 with the intention of making an S , with your suspension mods it would be very nice.

My R90 handles pretty good, but race tracks are a lot nicer than the road.
The difference between one with suspension mods and one without is amazing, race bike-firm and taut, r90 road bike- like riding a couch ( sofa).
