Here I go!
One year and 92 lbs. ago I promised myself that I'd finish a Ironman before I'm 40 (currently 38). I've taken the first step and registered for a local sprint tri in the spring. Training has begun and is really helping out as far as getting through the Alaskan winter is concerned. I'm also planning on a Olympic(ish) distance and half-iron later in the summer, along with my first marathon this fall. If all goes well, I'll be flying someplace warm next winter to finish an Ironman.
Anyone else spending the winter training for a spring event?

Congratulations on the weight loss. I'm sure you will love the sprint tri, and in training for the 70.3 distance, you will learn a lot about yourself. Take your time, and have fun. (I injured my foot twice training to run 13.1....less is more dude!)

![]() The winter has been too wet here to do much *real* cycling, so I've been spending it running. However, my first duathlon is in about a month, so I've started my brick workouts. Thursday was run/bike, friday it rained but today's sunny so it's time to bike/run.

WOW, 10 years since I've been in a pool....
and it shows. I was thinking that it'd be like cycling, boy was I wrong...I felt like a drowning wildebeest.
![]() Time to find a swin coach until I'm back on form.

You're waaaaaay better equipped than me, Gummee!
ACCOUNTABILITY; Stomach flu laid me out half-a-week. Tried running on wednesday, nearly ended up puking multiple times. However, back on the hammer today.

17 deg F (ambient), winds 14 mph W-NW. 35 min of running intervals (9 min/mile avg pace) 45 min of cycling intervals (no idea about speed, my cyclocomputer took a dump earlier this week). I hate winter.

Oh yeah, well I ran super slow for a total of 1.75mi this morning. So there!!!
![]() I actually feel pretty accomplished about it. Its been a long time since I have ran, and I felt pretty darn good considering the extra 30lbs of fat hangin off me  Sent from my fat thumbs on a small touch screen.

Avid triathlete. I work two jobs (fire dept) so I am able to do the majority of my training without sacrificing time with the family. One my day off I have to swim, and once a week I do a long training brick, but sometimes I do that at work as well, which really sucks. I hate doing more than 2-2:30 hrs on the trainer.
A full IM will consume you if you don't learn how to budget your time wisely. It can be done without neglecting the family, but not without sacrificing some time, realistically. I've done a full, and will do another, but I prefer the 70.3 distance right now. I have IM Raleigh coming up in a month, which I'm looking forward to. I'm proud to say I've done an Ironman though. As much as the training gets old, and as much as it hurt, it's a unique feeling to do something that you at first didn't think possible.

I hated swimming too...now I still do, but I'm proficient at it at least.
![]() Looks like this crazy "spring" we're having here in Fairbanks (it snowed 3 inches last night) is going to cause our first sprint tri event to be cancelled.
