Honda CB650
I stumbled on a 1979 Honda CB650 that is for sale. The owner is asking $1000. He says it is in good shape and it runs. He said he is selling because he needs some cash. I have only seen a couple of pictures. It does not have the stock exhaust. It looks fair in the pics, but I don't know the mileage, condition of the tires, etc. It's got Comstar wheels, which I don't much care for.
Anyway, it seems to me $1000 for a running bike is cheap. If I buy it, I would use it to commute 36 miles one way, and just as a general run about... and just for something to tinker with Is it worth $1000? Anything I should watch out for?

Is it just running or is it on the road and inspected? If you have to do things like brakes, tires, etc, the costs will add up quickly. If it's well sorted, on the road, and everything works as it should I would pay $1000. Has it been tuned to work well with the aftermarket exhaust?
The CB650 is a nice bike. The styling is not my thing but the engine is great. It's the same design as the CB500/550 but you get a hotter cam, electronic ignition, and a tensioner for the primary chain. It's probably not as fast as its rivals, but it's a nice, simple, easy to maintain bike that will go a long time before needing anything. |

$1k is a pretty good price for the 650. Would have to be damned nice to command that $$$
