Sometimes I get the urge to trade up to a newer Ural, maybe even a 2WD. My 05 Tourist is getting pretty gruesome looking and is lacking a bunch of the upgrades.

Then again, why get rid of a well-sorted Ural that has given me very little trouble and start over with an unknown one?

I have a 2003 2WD Gear disc brake.....wheels are interchangeable.....had it over 2 on now.

Been to France, Belgium, Germany and Devon in it......!

I would pilot it anywhere.....(unskilfully!)

I also - one year later on a Ural (Retro).

No complaints that weren't self induced. Kilometers of fun, and I'm learning to think in metric also!

I really enjoy threads like these. Colorful content and lots of real-world wisdom in them. I want to thank everyone for sharing their experiences with me.

My hack is a wonderful thing. SWMBO really enjoys riding monkey for me in it. But it is strictly an asphalt pounder. And, in the winter it spends most of the time collecting dust in the garage. Besides that, it's a real PITA to attempt lifting one of my dogs in and out of the chair. So I'm looking more and more toward a 2WD Ural. There are tons of back country roads around here that I'd like to explore. And Ural technology, or the lack thereof, seems to fit in pretty well with my mediocre wrenching skills. Now all I need is for that big Lotto payout.

A Ural, 1 year later

I just became a owner of a Yamal 2012. Will be doing a lot of riding out west this year and I'll keep you informed how it holds up. Kayaken John
