If they pump the Fiat to a 200hp brute, it'll be a little different story.

I found myself in the same position last week. Having driven both, I love the Fiat and could live with the mini. Trouble was, both were priced $4-5K above what I wanted to pay for something I really don't need. Ended up finding a Smart ForTwo Passion Cab, one owner, 15K miles for under 10 grand, which will work out perfectly for me.
But I don't have to commute, especially between New York and DC. The biggest job this baby is going to have is driving my pups to the park, which is no longer 3 blocks away.

My dad would have loved this! He grew up in the 50's and 60's owned several mg's and austin healys and we used to go to the vintage car races. I can see it now he'd have a fiat and i'd have mini and we would settle this!
![]() He loved hondas for good reason but I am sure he'd be in on a fiat/abarth mini duel!

I took my dad for a ride in the Abarth a couple of months after I bought it when I drove it to AZ to visit him. He loved it. My dad is a first generation Italian American which of course makes me half Italian and he was gushing on and on about how great it was that one of his sons owned a "little Italian sports car." (yes I know it's made in Mexico)

They won't. It's center of gravity is too high. SCCA won't allow the Fiat 500 to be used in autocross.

I see that now.
Still. The track height is still a bit high for my tastes. I wouldn't do it. The Mini is going to have a pretty significant advantage in that department when it comes to autocross. The Abarth would need one hell of a driver to overcome that.

Agreed. I'm not going to argue that the Mini is not a better performing car when it comes to pure numbers. However, I really like driving the Abarth a lot more. It's a lot more fun to me, and I like the experience and feel of the vehicle better. Hard to explain...but in the famous words of Jeremy Clarkson, it's better because it's worse.

Stopped by the Fiat dealer here. They've got 5 of the Abarth's. Dealer gave me a really nice Abarth ad book. I probably shouldn't have stopped.
![]() For $25,000 can I get a GTi?

You sure about that? Have you actually been to the dealer and priced one out with the options you actually want? (I haven't either, but I'm skeptical)
$25K gets you a nearly fully loaded Abarth OTD.

$30,000 The Abarth I saw yesterday had all the goodies. Leather heated seats, sunroof. If it was missing anything I doubt I'd miss it. Although now I have to have the mood lighting. Black with the red leather seats. Get that and I'd need a LeMans Rosso Corsa.
