VFR Thread, How many of us have 'em?

I absolutely love the bike so far. I've never owned a VFR to compare. I'm coming off a string of BMWs, the most recent of which was a K1300S. I posted a thread some pages back called "60 miles on a VFR1200" comparing the VFR12 to the K13 if you had any time to kill and were interested. While the K1300S ranks among my favorite all-time bikes, I actually like the engine characteristics of the big Viffer even better.

The 1200 is one of those bikes that looks about a million times better in the flesh than it does it photos. Huge, huge difference.

They still sound like ass though.

Agreed on the part about looking better in the flesh, for sure. I disconnected the flapper cable in the exhaust so it sounds much better than stock. I actually like the sound pretty well - but what do I know, here's the sacrilege of the day: I HATE the sound of gear driven cams. . I don't love the look of the pipe, contrary to my first thoughts, so it'll be binned one day when I have a little cash laying around for another.

Agree that it does look much better in person than photos. Also seemed smaller too. Most pics make it look like a truck. Didn't seem bigger than my 01.

Hello All,

I just picked up a non running 84 VF700 Interceptor. Well it was non running untill I cleaned the carbs . This bike prob should have been parted out but there are a few screw loose in my head so i decided to fix it up. This bike has Vans and Hines pipes and that v4 sounds mean.

Skimming through this thread, ogling pretty pictures this post caught my eye.

As an ex wee pilot to another wee pilot, how would you compare the 5th gen VFR to the wee. I sometimes wonder if the viffer would have been a better call for my kind of riding. (Mostly street.)

I've only heard the 1200 from a distance; not nearly as soul-stirring as the previous gens but still sounded healthy. Made me wonder why Honda changed the crank configuration (or the firing order?) in the first place. I don't care for the looks of the muffler either; anxious to see & hear the bike after it's piped.

Well the bike was sitting for about 10 years. I plan to clean it up and paint it, the paint is in bad shape. I dont know what color to paint, everyone seems to love the factory colors. Fix up the carbs, the junk that was in there was amazing. I never saw carbs so nasty. Do a service, replace the chain, sprockets and tires. Then rider er around for a month or so and sell it if i don't get attached.

IIRC, the 700 was kind of an odd duck. Only sold for a couple of years as a way to avoid the "big bike" tariffs of the time, passed to supposedly shelter H-D from competition.

Definitely agreed - while I don't like the cam whine, I DO love the sound of the old firing order, and wish the 1200 still had that cadence. I'll definitely post some pics/sound clips when I decide on a pipe.
