Yea, my bad. I went back and re-read your post and I totally missed your point that's why I nuked the post. I was hoping you didn't see that...

I will post back after I get an answer from Garmin since that info may be useful to somebody.

At the bottom of the page: "Disclaimer: Factoryoutletstore.com is not affiliated with Garmin. "

Somebody posted that store a few days ago and I found that even though the 600 is priced at $419, it is a refurb, and virtually everything else they sell in that store is 25 to 40% more than GPSCity or GPSCentral.
---End Quote---
You'll also find that GPSCity, REI, GPSCentral, etc are not affiliated with Gamin either. The only reason they don't post that is no one would assume they are.

There's also nothing wrong with a refurb unit since anyone who's exchanged a defective unit probably got a refurb sent to them.

The issue, however, is this:

Are they selling refurbed units and passing them off as new? No.
The unanswered question is will Garmin honor the one year warranty as stated on their (factoryoutletstore.com) site?

I have an email in to Garmin right now asking if factoryoutletstore is a legit vendor for their refurbed units as well as verifying that these are indeed factory refurbs. If so, is the one year warranty honored.

I'll post back when I get a response.

FWIW my 2720 I currently have has never skipped a beat in the 5 years I've owned it and it was a refurb as well.

[/End Firedog45]

I never said that there is no warranty from that supplier, just that this statement was not exactly true: "This is from the Garmin Factory outlet store" as described by the initial poster.

I never said there was any reason not to buy a refurb, just that for $419, you can often find factory fresh, non-refurb units for the same price, and virtually everything else in the store was overpriced.

So I have no doubt that the warranty will be honored if you buy from them, but personally, I prefer to buy from known reputable companies which have been selling for years and have better prices anyway.

No problem. When you get email notifications of new posts, it's hard to miss reading them even if they are deleted afterwards.

if it looks like you are looking down from above it is 2D and I agree, the route is very small, but you can zoom right in, but it is not perfect.

Maybe change your map to 3D, go to Map/Setup, Orientation and select Automotive mode, then see if that screen is any better, put the unit in portrait mode and lock it to that position

- Main menu/Settings/Display/Orientation Lock/Lock Portrait

That may be helpful.

As for Bokor Mountain, on a fully loaded Vstrom, that racetrack is brilliant and I am not sorry to have found it paved ;) from Ticket office to Buddha=19 minutes and top checkpoint= 24 minutes, round trip to the bottom ticket office was 47 minutes

It was a blast ;)

Cheers from Sihnoukville, Cambodia

Thanks I'll give the 3d view a shot. The route stands out better in that mode in the living room I'll see how it works in practice. nice tip thanks.

Top to bottom of Bokor in 47 minutes. Sheeeeeet its changed a bunch. I ended up sleeping at the old stone Casino at the top.

Enjoy the lobster on the beach in Sihnoukville.

Cool2 Little bit of a scare

I received the miniSD card with the Canada Topo maps. I put it in the unit and then went to look for it in the maps setup. It was not there! Upon subsequent investigation, I found the metal sleeve that locks the miniSD chip in place had come off. I thought it was broken. I must not have aligned the card correctly with the molded plastic guide. The card probably pushed the metal sleeve when I put the battery and door back on. Fortunately, I was able to snap the metal sleeve back into place and lined up the memory chip properly. All is well and the unit can see the maps on the card.

I need to be more careful! Well, it was a good reason to use my new reading glasses for the first time.

There's a CNNA Lifetime Map Update out today. 2013.40 is the latest.

Not sure if this will happen for others, but even though the Lifetime Map Updater said it completed successfully, .40 was not installed on my Mac. I had to navigate using Finder to the place where the map had been downloaded and saved to on my computer, and run the update from there.

R: Reading Glasses - resistance is futile. Wear them.

That clip is delicate, but as you found it can be put back into its place.

I usually put some tape on the clip to keep it in place.

It's too bad you bought the SD version, but the gps itself has enough room for maps so you can add any other maps like CNNA to the gps itself.

Be advised that updating with "Express" may cause the update to go only to the GPS unit, and not also to your hard drive. I had to use an older version of the lifetime map updater to get it to go to both.

You bought the Lifetime Map Updater, applied it to a map in your gps but can't get it to download? Have you called Garmin?

I've opted for the online support, they'll get back to me in 3 working days

Had no problem installing the CNNA NT 2013.3 version, but something seems to be amiss in the new Garmin Express installer.

So you gave Garmin 72 hours grace to get back to you.

The phone's the only way to go, IMHO.

I didn't even try Express - LMU works well for me.

Unfortunately LMU is telling me I'm up to date!
As I write am back to mapupdater, it is s l o w l y updating.
It does get wearisome being a beta tester for far too many software apps these days.

Same issue on my PC but can't find the update in my Downloads folder. Anyone know where Garmin Express is supposed to put the file?

Second question, since I bought the maps on DVD, how does the new Express updater work if I don't have the GPS connected? I used to be able to download updates direct from the My Garmin web page.

Garmin mapupdater has successfully installed CNNA NT 2013.4 on my pc, now installing it to my 650t. At least I hope it is.
