I DID see Metzeler Tourance Next and Michelin Anakee 3 though.

By just looking at them I seem to like Next best.

Now the interesting part is this... the guy that has the wheel shop told me that Next are indeed "hot" tires (and verified that my TR-91 are also great - wonder if they'll make them for new GS dimensions), but... Anakee 3 are NOT. They already had bad reports for them (he specifically pointed that a guy that got them for FREE didn't like them either). Now this can be a hint for many things I can think of... ahem...

(note that this is the tire most GSs will have from the factory)
Thanks for that scientific review of them being "hot."

Is he raving about them being better in the dirt or on pavement?

I just read that Shawn Thomas (one of the lucky guys from Rawhyde that was part of the South Africa launch) has been selected to be part of this tour. He just announced it on Facebook and he just started this new thread.

Well this is the best info I could find currently. I never claimed any (to the level of scientific) tire expertise.

Maybe you didn't like my syntax or choice of words. Sorry for not having English as my first language.

I am sure you will do better as it is obvious from your major contributions to this forum. Let us know when you have more data about the tires ok?

The only objective review is the one you do yourself.
Best would be to have the KTM1190, Triumph Explorer and the new 1200GS side by side.
I guess that wouldn't be a manufacturer sponsored event

I got it as well. I may go to this open house instead of my local dealer

Combination of dirt/gravel roads and "paved" goaty backroads in the Santa Cruz mountains (the term 'paved' is used very loosely to describe some of those roads )

Anakee 3

Honz @ Gateway BMW in St. Louis, MO, is running the Anakee 3's and is happy so far with there performance. He said the hook up decently in the gravel and might but them above the Tourance in that peformance realm.

I've always been very impressed with my Anakee 2's, so if the 3's are an improvement, bring it on

Chill out, there's about 50 posts in this thread about the tyres. Bring something useful to talk about to the table then.
