Garmin Express FREE Updates?
OK...maybe I've been on another planet...(I'll check my GPS to confirm)...but does Garmin now provide FREE Map Updates via Garmin Express?
Ran across the Garmin Express software this morning. Downloaded it and checked for UPDATES. After a length process...I think Garmin downloaded 2013.40 maps onto my Zumo 660 along with firmware 4.80. Is this possible? If so, more money for farkles... Checked my actual GPS unit and streets that I know didn't exist before...now show up!

I'm actually just doing the map updates for the first time to my Montana using Garmin Express, for which I purchased a 'Lifetime Map Update Card' when I purchased the CNNA on DVD. That's why you have to have you GPS attached to your computer so Express checks for a valid registered GPS. Now the question is can I get those maps onto my computer into Basecamp?

Other than that, unless you have a unit for which lifetime updates are included in the cost of purchase (usually noted with an "LM" in the name of the unit) or you purchased a lifetime update to some other map data, updates are not free.

Express Has Problems
I tried to update my Montana with City Navigator North America NT 2013.40 with Express. It did not work. It thinks it did. It now tells me my device is up to date but I have an older map set on the device.
The option to load the map data to your computer is non-existent now also. Once again we are unit testers, not even beta testers. The programmer clearly didn't even test that the code worked before they moved it to production. It really is pathetic. |

Jim, see if you have GarminMapUpdater on your computer, and if you do, try firing it up and using it.

Emoto, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately the Garmin engineers are better at removing good software than installing it.

Send me your email and I'll email GarminMapUpdater_v3.1.19.exe if you want. All you do is throw it in a folder somewhere and double click it to run it.
