I don't doubt that, all the more reason I don't bother with street mags, they have been mostly regurgitating company brochures and sales releases for years. I bailed on them about 7 years ago.

As soon as Internet became widely spread.. me too.

I just buy 1 "yearly" locally made catalougue of all new bikes/year.

I guess the two of us are the only ones who don't ride at a pro level. Or we are the only ones who don't, in the interest of self flattery, bag on professionals who make money riding.

I just thought it was odd that this guy rides a lot like me,"but it's only for a photo shoot".I saw a video of me at the old Talledaga WERA track back in the 80's and I looked just like that guy!!!!! I haven't improved any and may now actually be slower.Maybe journo's do ride different for photo shoots,hell if i know.I just couldn't help but laugh at that corner setup,just like old times:

I didn't see anyone saying they rode better.

And journos don't make money riding, as such; they make money writing about riding.

The best ones, now I think about it, make money writing about the joy of riding.

First print review I've seen (MCN, UK) is quietly impressed. They promise a vid but I can't see one on the website.

the nice thing about the X is i have to wait to get it.. so i can see what people are getting for mileage on the F and R.!!

I don't think scans are allowed on ADV, copyright and all that.

The article says 80.2mpg claimed, which is higher than previous figures I'd seen quoted.

I can't imagine that being accurate anywhere near the 8500rpm redline (7000-8000 is where the bike is fun, so says MCN). Top speed is limited to 112mph.

Tester says he is 6'3" and could fit on the bike.

That is a low-ass redline for a small twin. My GS500 was around 11, IIRC, and was a joy from 7-10. Found a dyno run for a tuned GS, tops out at 42hp @ 9k, 25lbft @ 7.5k.

Just checked; yep, 8500, then rev-limiter.

On the plus side, the review says the bike loves to 'have its neck wrung' and Honda man Dave Hancock says it has the smoothest torque curver of almost any production bike.

That will either mean it's incredibly flexible, or incredibly boring, depending on what you want out of a bike.

And, just to restate this, the 500 series are explicitly aimed at the Euro A2 market. Honda make this plain. It is a 35Kw bike, rather than a 500cc bike (it's actually 471cc), meaning it is bang-on the power to weight ratio dictated by Euro regs.

Kawasaki did the same thing with the Ninja 250 here, and it sold by the bucket-load.

I'm not saying other regions shouldn't enjoy the 500, just that complaints about engine mods, or power, should be directed to law-makers in Brussels, not engineers at Honda.

The Euro regs mean that you cannot mess with the 'drive-train' of the bike unless it is approved (similar to German TUV type-approval).

The old Ninja 500 was a hoot at top revs too. I'm sure these will be effective for many, and great for European regs but right now there is no weight to power limits in the USA so I can be as disappointed as I want!
