And...Toad Hits The Road...Literally.

Out for a great, long ride yesterday. Was enjoying myself immensely.
Then about thirty minutes to go in Templeton I pull up to a red light. Just turns green and, WHAM. I'm hit from behind by a big pickup. He knocks the bike from under me and I go down hard. I try to get up but there's no doin that. Managed to get the lid off and thats about it. Having trouble breathing and my right side rib cage hurts like Hell. Left leg is tingly from the knee down with some pain.
I get the full meal deal. Fire, ambo, cops. First to help is an off duty paramed and whoever he was I can't thankyou enough. But with the collar, a backboard and being trussed like a Gator I really can't see much of anything going on. Haven't a clue how bad the bike is but someone says it looks OK.
I'm rushed out of there to Twin Cities Hospital for an agonizing hour of answering questions whilst still trussed. Finally a doc who gets me out of the gear prods some more and I get a shot. Down to xray for chest and knee.
And, finally blessed pain relief comes on.
Turns out my Tib is broken and the ribs just bruised. ( Edit here: Man, I must have been high. Could have sworn Doc said Tibia. Looked it up and that's the big bone. But Im pretty sure it's the Fibula )
Think the windshield speared me.
But, there u have it. I guess this ride is over for a while. Today I have to find a rental car and get back there from Morro to find the bike (cops didn't even leave me a card, barely talked to me), find my lid and hoodie and see hospital guys about billing.
I've got the full travel ins. and the extended bike ins so let's hope it will pay off. I'll be off the bike for at least a month so I am entertaining thoughts of buying a truck a getting back to BC to attend to what I was going to early and flying back down to pick up where I left off.
I think my extended ins. pays for accomodation and travel back so I think I might just move into the Sheridon.

Man Toad, that totally sucks but at least you're here to tell the tale. It's one of my real concerns at stop lights if I'm in a cage or on a bike. There are tons of stupid driving around out there that really have no business operating machinery of any type. Get well soon a keep us informed.

Bummer, Toad. Glad you and the bike weren't hurt any worse. Been enjoying your ride.

Hi Toad,

I've been more of a lurker than a poster on your excellent RR, but just thought I would chip in and add my best wishes of a speedy recovery for both your good self and the big Guzzi...bad luck on meeting a fool "driver" but as others have said it could have been SO much worse...thoughts are with you here.

All the best

Cheers

Hey Toad,

Just been enjoying your pix and narrative. It's been good, but sorry you've been injured! Rest up, heal up, and I'm looking forward to reading your adventures down the road.

Busted tibia or fibula... you probably won't be driving a rented car anytime soon.

Any ADV riders in the area ???

Ah Doug, that just sucks. You finally get the bike running well and you get whacked. Hope you sue the living daylights out of that asshat.

If we can do anything for you, let us know.

Ya john,
You probably read me talkin about my good luck and the ancestors looking out for me. Did I tell you they were all a bunch of practical jokers? I mean, how else could this have happened.
And, your wrong, Twilight. I've been all over today after renting a car and 'taking care of business.' And man, was it painful! But for years now I have had no one but myself to look out for me so I'm used to it.
And...the last thing on the list was to get that prescription filled and am now back in the hotel room feeling the effects of Vicodan bliss

Toad's ride meets Otter's

Storing Toad's bike for him until Todd from Guzzitech can get up here to transport it south for repair.

Below is the Stelvio meeting it's strange extra limbed cousin the MP-3

The Stelvio looks good and I didn't see any major damage to the bike itself but I'm no expert. Left side Trax is dented and the rack holding it is bent up as well. More Pics if Toad wants me to post em up. This post is just to show its arrival at the Hostel Otter.

Truly Indebted to Both Rick and Todd.

Funny now, the leg only aches a bit. Course that may have something to do with the Vicodan but it aint doing its job on the ribs. Now, two days in and every other ache has appeared. Lower back, neck, and even the other knee.
But the ribs, oh the ribs. Every breath is killing me and the occasional cough, owwwwe. Funny again because the preliminary bruise under my tit seems to have gone away. must be bruised on the inside.
Been drivin around in a rental (for only as long as I can take the pain) looking for a truck to scoot back to Canuckistan.
