So I'm thinking of a 14-49 might be a good all around gearing for my 95% dirt riding. Will the stock length chain work with those sprockets? Anyone got a good deal on sprockets and chain recently?
I replaced my chain to bikemaster o-ring (x-ring is even better) i usually buy the 120 links and cut it upon my need, it takes 2 minutes to remove a link. I changed my gearing to 15-48 and tested at 75mph according to trail tech and gps reading (revvy engine though). I can always go back to 15-47 (my favorite setting) and do 75-80 mph all day long.

Looks great :

Thanks. I can easily cut the links, but wanted a continous chain. I have been running 13-44, and find that I need a lower 1st a lot more often than i need a higher 5th gear. I hate that narrow spaced gearbox. Thus thus the idea of 14-49, and should I need it, I can always put a 15 up front.

Love it Best blog ever too!!

So, I see it's a Buell headlight with custom mount, and Triumph Tiger wind screen....but the graphics? Are they special order ones, because I looked on AMR's site, and see nothing for KLX/DRZ, only MX bikes.

I don't have any indication of low/no oil pressure.

Jon
I imagine the first indication will be the rising water temperature and overheating. Without circulation you would cook the coolant more quickly than you would cook the piston.

The graphics are from AMR. They have all their standard graphics available for the DRZ, but they all pretty much feature flaming skulls, which is a bit juvenile in my opinion. They will do any of the custom designs you want, but it's about $150 for the design work and another $160 or so for the graphics themselves. The quality is incredibly good. They are so thick it's all but impossible to get bubbles in them when applying. They are 2 layers with the top layer being a thick clearcoat.

The bars are Renthal fat bars. Cant' remember what bend they are. Probably exactly what comes on the SM. I used pro-taper 7/8"-1 1/8" adapters.

Once the windshield and lights are fully mounted, I'll post up about their performance and get into more detail on the install.

Thanks for all the positive feedback fellas, much appreciated.

I believe the bearing failure or seizure before anycnoticable coolant rise...Atty least to the point the warning light comes on.

Your bike is awesome!

SquadraCorse your bike is sweet! Nice build. I want to put urban camo graphics on mine. I was thinking either white or grey. I have a white bike! I am dead broke now, but hopefully I can get them soon

Raptor World

Is a raptor petcock necessarily a genuine Yamaha part? Or are there knockoffs? I bought one online at eBay. The filter screens were very loose and one of the screens would not stay in. I stupidly tried to glue it in with permatex gas resistant sealer. (I think I confessed to that in a previous post) The on-off-reserve valve seemed really stiff and cheesy. An hour ago I pulled the screens out as part of a tank cleaning and chucked them. I had an inline filter to replace them. When I put the line to the carb back on and tried to tighten the hose clamp, the brass fitting pulled out of the petcock. I have looked at a couple of sites and they say raptor petcock, but do not indicate it's a genuine Yamaha part. Perhaps I should just go to the Yamaha dealer. I might go back to the stock petcock.

Also whoever suggested safety wiring on the nipple to the vacuum port you don't need with the Raptor, thanks. Very good idea. I've been worried about that popping off.

I bought two of those eBay petcocks.
One for my S and one for SM.
They are junk.
I shot the lock off my wallet and got Pingel's.
If anybody needs one of those eBay petcock's just let me know.
Cheap!

I found a post on Thumpertalk where the poster indicated there are cheap Chinese raptor petcocks being sold online. Must be what I got. Screw it. I bought a Pingel for $117 shipped. I keep my bikes in the garage next to where I sleep. Last thing I need is a petcock failing and dumping gas next to the furnace. I'm not entrusting my life to something made by some ten year old in China.
