'78 MX250, less than 1000 of them were made

has wrong fenders (original ones have the HD logo embossed) it came with the original ones, altho badly weathered. also need to replace a damaged rear brake pedal, cylinder head & one cracked sidecover. Anyone got that stuff layin around?

Nice find. I don't have any parts just memories. I raced one of these for a local dealer a couple times, good power but the handling was scary. I think I saw my life flash before my eyes at least once.
Curious, who built the engine?

While out on bike hunting safari this past weekend, I took a foray into the redneck enclave of N central Florida.

Believe it or not, he knows the guy that I visited a couple weeks ago, with all the junk covered in pine needles, & was only about 25 miles from him

Piles like this can overwhelm even the most seasoned hunter. Theres so much crap to see, and so much of it is just useless (to me anyhow) but you have to be careful or you'll miss something.

Of course he had several dogs, good thing they were all friendly

some of these pics are crappy, as I took them with my phone. Sometimes these guys dont want you taking pictures, scared that their 'treasure pile' will become public knowledge. This guy lived at the end of a dirt road, past a big fence that said trespassers will be shot, & other obstacles to keep the preachers, bill collectors & other undesirables from entering.

where to start?

I asked about this building, but theres no bike stuff inside, thats his house. I dunno why I didnt recognize it as a residence right off! DUH!

I love finding Nortons like this, burned, & sitting for 20 years.
you cant even get them apart

this norton belongs to his friend he hasnt talked to in 8 years, so he cant get rid of it

37 knuckle in a VL frame bobber project on the left, triumph on the right
he said he's 'think' about selling them. I was all excited over the knuckle.

so after 2-3 hours of digging (I dunno how those TV guys can do it in 15 minutes, maybe its edited?)
and getting the stink eye from Poly sitting in the truck (she is pretty cool about it, actually)
we decided that he would make a pile of all the non jap stuff, & I'd come back in a couple weeks.

Maybe by then he will realize he's not gonna ever finish that knuckle....

I do "repairs" for a local guy, Bill, that restores dirt bikes and last year he did one of these. I give him a ring and see if he knows of any sources and get back to you or pm you his email address.

there was actually 2 of them, theres a brief glimpse of another earlier prototype later in the video, that had a front end as the rear shocks.

goofy looking, wish mine had that

I got it running, & altho it needs a little tuning, it took me around the field, and I can tell that when tuned, it will be a friggin beast!

But then, I'm used to old/slow bikes

Doug
