CannonTracks - Central WI River Tour

This track follows a portion of the Wisconsin River in central Wisconsin. It is about 240 miles long.

It includes:
-designated WI Rustic Roads
-the Wisconsin Dells (a scenic portion of the riverway and a tourist center)
-extremely dense deer population - be careful, even in daylight
-paper mills
-an air to ground bombing and gunnery range (Hardwood Range near Finley). Don't be surprised by low flying and loud military aircraft.
-a railroad museum with a working steam engine/train at North Freedom
-Devil's Lake State Park (interesting terrain - glacial)
-free car ferry across the WI River at Merrimac (ice cream at crossing)

Hey Brian nice tracks. Do you happen to have tracks or can you point me in the direction of that hill we climbed last summer. I remember that you said that it was on the route, but which way and approximately where?

Thanks Brian, oh feel free to post some Michigan tracks to

Here is the hill climb "road". The fire tower is no longer there.

Thanks for the track Bryan, I may try to find that again this week. I didn't realise how close we were getting to my house at that point on the ride. Sweet.

You can follow the detour around.

Nice Route

I followed the Easterly side of the route on my way back down from up north. Great ride, especially when you hit that rustic route (Hwy 23??) at the end.

Files Available for Download Again

These tracks are now available again for download. Many thanks to fellow ADVer deputyjones who offered some server space.

Go to http://dsam-mi.org/GPS_Files/ and you will see a directory of folders that contain the files. You should be able to choose the proper directory without much trouble. The individual files will have names that are the same as or similar to the file names listed when the files were hosted on ADV.

The files are listed as .zip files. If you left click/open the file, you will open it in your computer's temporary internet directory. Depending on how you have your computer set up, clicking on the .gpx will open the file with Mapsource so you can look at it. Remember, it is in your temporary internet files.

To save the file in one of your neatly filed directories, "left click/save" or "right click/save target as" and put it where you want to keep it.

Some of the files have an associated spreadsheet file with points of interest (Black Hills, Pony Express, etc). Same procedures apply.

Happy to have quick and easy access to these files again.
