The accident was on Friday. I found out in the pre-dawn hours on Sunday. We were at an ADV lunch gathering later that day, when we got the news that he had passed.

On a side note: my father-in-law is good friends with the owner of a campground over in Nolichuckey Gorge in Erwin. Said we're more than welcome to come look at it for next year if we want and he'll have some rafts there if any one feels like whitewater rafting this year.
