Thinking of putting my SE up for sale. You mite ask why would you sale such a fine dirt bike. Well because I have concluded that I will never be able to do any long trips. I'm only able to ride for 2 to 3 hours and my neck is hammered and I want off the bike. I have the most fun riding tight single track on my little 250. The 950 is just not that fun for that. I truly love the SE and it brought me out of a deep depression. I know I will kick myself in the ass if I get rid of it.Commuting to work and short rides seems like such a waste on such a bike. What should I do,keep it or sale it. What do you guys think?

Did you ever try using a type of neck support while riding. I t may limit your ability to turn your head from side to side a little but learn to rely more on mirrors. Also ,a lighter helmet can make a big difference.

If it makes you happy, keep it. You don't have to justify it to anyone.
I know guys who have uber-spendy vintage guitars and can't play for shit.

I felt the same way You do when I first rode mine for a 500 mile trip up north on the slab. I spent the money for a Madstad windshield that changed it for me its not worth it off road but for road rideing its awsome.

I think you should keep it until you are physically or mentally unable to ride any motorcycle ever again. The SE is just that awesome. I own one myself and it will be with me until I am ready to leave this world. Get the ergonomics on your bike sorted out for YOU, and like the other guy said install a windshield that works for YOU and takes the pressure off your chest and neck when you ride at higher speeds. A windshield can make all the difference in the world. I've had one on my bike and without it at speeds of 65mph and up you get slapped around by the wind and that's very tiring after a while, especially if your helmet has a motocross-style "peak" or "visor" which catches wind, as found on an Arai XD or a Shoei Hornet. Don't give up ! Persevere and you will find a way to make the bike work for you, and you will It'sNotTheBike screwed with this post 03-16-2013 at 07:08 PM |

Before you put your 950SE up for sale try adjusting your riding position by trying a different handlebar bend, handlebar raisers and maybe a different seat. I agree with the others and put on a windshield which will help deflect the wind.
To help reduce the strain on your neck, I would check how much you current helmet weighs. I have a "jacked up" neck too and after I went to a light weight helmet, I was able to ride much longer and in greater comfort. |

Thanks guys
I take all your advise to heart. I have the lightest helmet short of a Harley beanie and I'm not going there. As for the wind shield and different position I get f'd up even in my truck in time. My doctors prognosis is continued degeneration of my spine ( he is pissed I still ride ) Thanks all, this is a difficult decision

If your Dr is not in your camp about your activites,,, and act "pissed" then you need a different Dr.. Anybody not in line with the goal is not going to help at the level they should... No matter how "good" of a Dr they are supposed to be..
Just my experience.. Dave |
