Need new dirt boots

Yes, another boot thread. Sorry.

My DS boots are A* Scout. Love them, but not enough protection for the rough stuff. My rough stuff boots are Axo Prime. Love them, except the water going in through the vents. Last year I ripped a buckle from the stitching, and fixing it is not an option here. So, I'm looking for a new pair of boots.

Looking online is rather confusing so I went to a shop. Tech 10 are super nice, but pricey, way too pricey. Tech 8 same thing.

They had some Thor Ratchet - looked fine, but not the protection of the Axos.
How are the Gaerne GX-1?

Fox Comp 5 looks okay, but the Thor look better.

I need something that survives water, log and rock hits. Smooth sole is better for me.

Thanks

Well, I ordered the GX-1 to the store, with the understanding that I won't buy them if they are not adequate. The store knows that I will buy something, either way, so they are okay with it.

You guys are sure quiet on this one

GX-1s are great no-frills MX boots. I don't think you can beat them for anywhere near $300. I personally wouldn't consider an upgrade unless going to Crossfires at nearly 3x the cost.

YMMV - fit is key.

You will like the GX-1's. AXO make a good boot, too, but more on the line of the Thor (lower entry-level). I wear Thor Quadrant's and DO like them, but am looking to step up to a slightly 'better' boot. Going to either a Gearne GX-1 or one of the new Forma boots.

Forma TX HPS http://www.atomic-moto.com/Forma-Ter...ots_p_794.html I know I am starting to sound like a shill because I have posted this same link twice,, but I trust the guys at Atomic as straight shooters and this boot is tops on their list for mid/low priced boots. After using a pair of Thor Ratchets for a while, then moving up to the Gaerne SG-10 I wont use another pair of boots w/o the mechanical ankle hinge. When my SG-10s go I will be replacing them with the TX-HPS or the Dominator http://www.atomic-moto.com/Forma-Dom...ots_p_796.html I just think you get way more boot with the Forma line than with Sidi or Gaerne right now.

I ended up getting the Gaerne GX-1 boots locally (special ordered for me to try them on). Fit is great, and I'll be posting a full review soon.

One thing that surprised me was the CE rating on these boots. They are rated as CE level 2 for abrasion from impact, cross rigidity, and cut from impact.
I looked at all the A* boots in store, and they were all rated CE 1. Strange. The tech 10 are definitely sturdier.
