I did the same thing, only used a piece of a broom stick instead of the cork. Allowed for a good amount of tension so the screw won't turn when tightening the valve adjuster.

In my case I took the bolt circle diameter from the drawing and used a rotary table to mark and drill the bolt holes. I can verify the dimensions on the drawing are accurate. Good luck!
