I have tried running regular fuel in my S10. I got A LOT of pinging at WOT towards the redline merging on to highways. The bike sounded very unhappy. I switched back to premium and it went away. Tried regular from a different source, same thing: high rpm pinging getting on the highway. I'll stick to the premium. This bike needs all the help it can get in the hp department for me on the street.

And regardless of whether it is or isn't different, I doubt Yamaha specs premium because of the additive package. It's a big 600cc/piston, low-revving, high-compression motor without knock sensors. While many think you can get by on regular, Yamaha thinks you need to run premium for adequate knock margins. Other similar bikes typically spec premium as well.

Yeah I know you say that every time. And I say I use 95RON most of the time and use 91RON when available and have no issues when used sensibly. This is the same with the S10, Strom, SV650.

And it is just because I often don't have a choice AND I HAVE FOUND that used sensibly it's not an issue.

Just FYI

95 RON is often labelled Premium in OZ.

S10 compression 11.0:1 No knock Sense -Twin spark
DL1000 11.3:1 No Knock Sense - Single spark
SV650 11.5:1 No Knock Sense - Single spark

I think it's a 19mm.

One of these is way handy in the tool kit.....

You can also just use a 19mm bolt head with some vice grips. Can't take the KLR out of me.

@ Geology Rocks. Been out of town. Nice to see you have finally made it happen.

You sound a little like Robo-Rider. Be careful out there.

After seeing your Yearbook photo I can see why you chose to wear the helmet.

Silly question, I know, but has anyone heard updates on Wasp's high fender kit? I've searched, but still nothing.

I've got a chub for this, and his fork guards. Tempted to do something myself, but his setup is super clean!

Just ask him. He would know better than any of us.
