Dead Zumo 550

If there is a FAQ please point me to it.

I had my Zumo with me on a trip and was far from home (like 2,000+ miles). Mine has the locking code (do they all?) where when not at the Home location I need to enter a PIN. Well I fumble fingered it. Not the first time, and as usual I turned it off and turned it back on, entered it again. And fumble fingered AGAIN. Not like I could quickly go "Home" to restart it.

Now frustrated, I went to do Off/On again but was in a hurry. Didn't seem to be coming up so thought maybe I hadn't pushed the button for "On" enough, pushed it again, saw a flash on the sceen and then it went Off. Looks like I actually HAD pushed it "On" but had just turned it Off while it was booting.

Anyway, now it's a paperweight. Is there a reboot/reset I can do, when nothing comes up on the screen?

Thank you!

Try this. If it doesn't work, your next step is sending back to Garmin for repair or exchange

  • 1 Press and hold down the "Power" button, located on the lower right-hand side of the Garmin Zumo unit.

  • 2 Push and hold down the "+" button, located on the upper left-hand side of the unit.

  • 3 Release both buttons when the unit begins to reboot.

Pull the battery first. Sometimes when it shutsdown during the start cycle and the reverse, it will lock and you just need to pull the battery. 2mm or 2.5mm allen wrench.

The 2-button thing didn't do anything here at the desk. I could try it again in the cradle.

Then I'll try the battery, but probably won't be today. (I think I have a wrench that size somewhere, otherwise will try to borrow.)

    Thanks!

I have the same model. This has happened to me a few times. I fixed it by taking the battery out. It has a hex screw in the back that keeps the battery in place. Try that.

A single hex key like that at a hardware store will be less than a dollar.
