Question.99' LC4 Enduro Rattle 5th gear low rpm

I just got a 99 Lc4 Enduro, has 12000 miles oil changed every 2500 miles and bearing replaced at 3,000 miles. This thing runs great! Valves Adjusted Every 4,000 Miles. I noticed today on the highway at 50 mile an hour shifted into 5th and rolled on the throttle and a clatter sounds like right side and maybe topend. It sounds like maybe timming chain? it stops once its not lugging or the RPMs plane out. This normal?

pre-ignition? have you changed the brand of gas you're using?

lugging the engine is bad. Stop it.

lol I only use 100% gas Premium octane. I'm not really lugging it, I can be going 65 and roll on throttle and it will clatter until the RPM levels out then quite again.

Are you sure it's not the drive chain slapping the swing arm slider??

Cheers

If your geared at 17/42 or even 16/42? That is lugging on my bike. (I have a 99 lc4e and its perfect) I have 16/42 and my bike cruises at 50 in 4th and I dont hit 5th til 60. If my cruise goes under 55 then I'm hitting 4th again. 17/42 would be really lugging in 5th at 50mph? Not sure about your noise tho? Hope it's nuttin serious?

If you are lugging the motor...........that drive chain will really slap around and hit the swing arm............have another look at that........well.....don't really look at it while riding!!

Just try revving the bike higher in lower gears and see if the problem dissapears.

Cheers

Putting a 4 mm thick piece of closed cell foam between the plastic slider and top of the aluminum swing arm will really reduce any noise from the chain impacting the slider...
