hey look at that.... 2 people are reading

that means i should post 2 days worth!

and yep, Sundowner, East Macs depinately are worth the trip, even though they are not 'pushed' as much as the west Mac's...

ok... onward!

so the next morning i rode out the same ol' rough track from yesterday... out
to the 'Ross River Highway'... and continued out east to the Ross River Homestead...

nice enough place... seems they're tidying the place up a bit... not sure if i agree with them using the term 'resort'...

but nice enough place to get some fuel and a coffee..

they have a bar, big dinning room, cabins etc...

oh and they'd rescued this little fella... no doubt he'll grow up big n strong.... n take someone off their bike....

so after fueling me and the bike, next stop was another place Robbie had recomended.. (oh and since then, Sundowner too ) , N'Dhala Gorge..

a little bit of water...

and a gate....

and some sandy river beds...

and some cattle grids..

and i was there...

i was a little walk in... reasonably long gorge..

shame there was no water in there...

.

but a nice part of the world all the same...

i returned to the bike, and rode back out the way i'd come in..and then headed north east to Arltunga...

heard there was a pub there...

unfortunately.....................

seems its not much of a pub anymore...

anyway it meant i was at Arltunga..

really interesting 'town'...

.

well worth spending a bit of time walking around..

.

i probably could have spent most of the day there.... but i had a rough plan to
get out to Ruby Gap (about as far east as you can get in the MacDonnel Ranges)

so off i went...

heading off the 40kms out the '4wd only' track..

stopped for another late lunch..

and then stopped for a flat front tyre....

no real drama....

pumped up and was on my way again..

about 10 mins later, the front was feelin a little loose again...

i stopped, yep, she was goin down...

i had about 12 km to go... and it was gettin late...

i wacked some more air in, crossed my fingers and headed off..

about 5kms further on she was flat again...

it was gettin late, i had about 7km to go, last air stop let me get 5km...

i figured... air up here, then one more time, then be at Ruby Gap for the night..

.
.
.

that air lasted 3 kms....

hmmm..

aired up, and took off (no time for photos!)

flat again just as i left the last cattle station......

GPS said i had about 600m to go....

the track was now sandy...

i just rode her in to Ruby Gap......

got to the sign and said 'that'll do'....

got a fire goin...

then setup tent, got tea on... and said 'bugger the puncture...till the morning'...

So the next morning the front wheel came of and the tube out...

shit bloody bubber/glue/patches....

old patch had blown off...

decided not to stuff around... had a spare tube and would be back in Alice tonight...

so in went the new tube... i'd grab another new one tomorrow and then ditch this old one...

went for a little walk, but not all the way down to 'Ruby Gap' itself..

and then headed off...

weather forcast said there was a bit of a cool change due today....

was a pretty good ride back out...

id been tossing up the idea of following UncleGra's tracks and heading around and up Cattlewater Pass..

the name just sounds like it'd be a good ride...

but fuel was going to be an issue..

hillier than i remembered goin in...

i hadnt filled up the jerry yesterday, so i would need to go back to Ross River 'resort' for fuel either way..

checking the map once there, it was a pretty big 'backtrack' to get to Cattlewater Pass..

and given today was Sunday, it made more sense to head back to Alice Springs today for beers on a sunday night, than get there tomorrow for beers on a Monday night....

so i sent Robbie a text to get his address and say i'd see him tonight.. and hit the 'highway' for the 130-odd km back to Alice..

Hit Robbies place, had a hot shower, went out for a great feed (about 100 metres from the place Aub and Graham and i had the crap mixed grill at a few nights earlier )

even had stacks of backpackers, locals, bands etc playin...!

nice to see a bit of civilisation every now and then! (oh except for the half dozen 'natives' at the end of the
night who mistook me for someone who put their cousin in hospital the day before....)

The next morning, with a sore head, i pulled out the maps and pondered what to do with day 15 of this 10 day trip to Finke and back.......

Chinese Wubber Glue again? Glad you experienced Ndhala Gorge - most amazing place as almost all the rocks you walk over have marine fossils embedded in them. Plus there's the Aboriginal petroglyphs on all the big rocks. Stunning area.

I don't know Greg as I remember multiple punctures on a ride we did about 3 years ago Greg and luckily finding the wife of the local Tyre repair place in the BP servo at Mannum late at night. Maybe it is you
