XR electrics question

I am thinking of putting an HID into the headlight of my XR600R. I was curious if anyone has done this, as my understanding is that the 12v supply to the headlight is AC, as opposed to the 12v supply to the horn, which is DC.
Do the HID's work on 12v AC or do they need 12v DC?
For reference, I run HID on my KTM640 and GS1150, but both have wires direct from a 12v DC battery source for power, so I know that the HID will run on DC, but I don't know about AC.
Thanks in anticipation.

You'll need a DC system battery and a higher output stator to run the HIDs, they require DC and 35 watts at all times.

Thanks for the info, it confirms my suspicion. Ah well, looks like I'm stuck with what I currently run.
