took a ride through the base last Saturday. Road was so nice we didn't notice the 40mph sign, but the Game Warden noticed us. We didn't pull over for the lights behind us cause we didn't look behind us, but when the siren spoiled our serenity we obliged. Hand on the gun he asked for our papers, and then another Warden showed up with lights flashing, then 2 Sheriffs units with lights, then 2 Military hummers with lights and full auto rifles (read machine guns) were standing all in formation(back-up) while us 2 old guys enjoyed the show. The sum of it is we got a warning(after they ran our #'s) and continued on our day doing only 5 over instead of 20 over. Watch the speed limit if you go through the base and enjoy the ride even if the road is crying for a little adrenaline.

Amazing road. Dodged deer while watching tanks on maneuvers. I was the only vehicle there on a rainy February day.

Been over that road a dozen times mostly on a bike and never seen a cop. Even back when you had to stop at a gate and show your license and registration. The new gate is very convenient.

Glad your incident worked out for you. It truly is a great ride!
This is the west end before dropping down to PCH, it's down there somewhere.

Very cool. I used to have my field exercises in ft. Hunter liggitt. I have some pretty bad memories of that place, but it is beautiful! Thanks for showing me a good side to that place!

Thumb gotcha

...truly a great road. Been over it nearly every year on the way to MotoGP.
The first time through the base it bit me though...imagine riding on a gurney from there to Kettleman City with a busted clavicle...
Gotcha corner. That's me paying homage the next year...

The Fog..

got my own corner like that up on PCH at Salt point state park. I got a helicopter ride at sunset to Santa Rosa, not that I got to see it with being strapped down....

...heh heh, I was fine other than I couldn't lift my arm, nor the bike.
Had I been able to I'd have ridden out of there. The emergency crew(s) had a debate on how to starp me down for the ride. MIlitary, CHP, ambulance.
What a charade.
The ER nurse just told me I had a broken bone and let me go.
I rented a car and went to the races anyway...
Anyhow, OT, great road, just be careful.

Nice Officer

Some Sunday afternoon this past February:

Heading North/Northwest out of Paso toward the coast I rode throuh FHL as I had many times before. Same as it ever was.

There's a tight left-hander where Mission Rd. turns West towards the tank bridge over the creek. The corner is marked for a reduced speed of 25mph; I casually rolled through it at 35mph. (no jokes, please)

Mr. Red Light was waiting patiently on the straightaway after the turn. He lit me up like a firecracker in July.

"Crap. If I get a ticket, there goes my budget for new riding pants."

It was a county sheriff with a super-cool attitude. "It'd be tough for a motorcycle to go through that corner at 25" he said to me as I handed him my license and registration. He looked over the documents and began to speak.

"I'm not a federal officer but they're here all around and have a zero-tolerance policy; be carefuL"

He paused to ensure that I was listening.

"My tickets are cheap compared to theirs; you don't want a federal citation, trust me."

"You're right, 25 is a bit slow for a motorcyle" I smiled. "I promise to be on my best behaviour from now on"

"Take it easy, have good ride" He said as he turned to walk away.

Unfortunately I spent my pant money on a new seat.

One of my favorite areas to ride in all of CA. Definitely slow down in base though.
