Thanks! I'm really diggin' it. Been riding since '68, and it's the first HD I've owned. Just spent too much time at Ascot, I guess. Glide's were what the old guy's rode..........

When window shopping the last few bikes I've bought, I've had the rubber mount XL1200C at the top of my "first runner up" list.

A great looking bike, the 4.5 tank makes it a workable choice for the road trips I like.... and while the prices are all over the place on them, I have seen some excellent low mile examples in the sub-$6k range.

I like the exhaust it is a thunder header that I cut and welded so it would kick up at the end.

06 883c

Picked up this '06 883C about a month ago from the original owner that just let it sit most of it's life. As the second owner I have been busy doing alot of work to get er back up to par. Forks completely disassembled, cleaned, and fork seals replaced. Painted and flipped the mirrors, New low rise handlebars & grips, throttle & idle cables, all switch & lighting wiring RE wired, fuel line, vacuum lines, spark plugs, tires (shinko 777′s theyre nice), carburetor tore apart and cleaned up ( not once but twice ), all fluids changed, and I am sure there is more that I am forgetting. This Black Beauty is running great and ready to hit the road at the end of the month on a 6000+ mile tour around the U.S.

bought this last winter, advertised locally as an "883 special edition". in the pics there were some nuances not associated with a stock 883. always thought the 883r was one of the best looking sportsters made, so i had to go check it out.
guy took it on trade for a concrete job. didn't run, but with a jump everything lit up and the motor turned over. made the seller a fair, yet in his eyes, low offer which was declined. we bullshitted a bit more then i split. he called me when i was almost home with a counter, and i ended up paying $100.00 more than my first offer.
883 with 1200/1215/1250? kit
42mm screamin eagle mikuni
crane ignition, aftermarket coil, wires
cams, but not sure who's or the duration
adjustable push rods
beautiful hand porting in the heads, stainless steel valves, and bronze valve guides
rinehart exhaust
oil cooler
the bad was "C" risers, with drag bars, forward controls. not my thing on an 883r.
new glass mat battery, sonic cleaned the carb, changed the fluids, air up the tires and took it for a ride. first time i put some serious stick to it from a stop, snapped the belt. now its got a new s&s carbon fiber weave on on it.
scrounged ebay and internet h-d dealers and got the correct risers, black low rise briefs, oops i mean bars, correct speedo bracket, indicator lights, and a set of mids.
i've owned six other sporty's and this bike flat rocks. more fun than a whorehouse on dollar day.
as bought

the emperor's new clothes. looks like a proper 883r

i liked the looks of the lepera seat but everytime i nailed it my ass would slide back damn near off it.

still have to take the lowering kit off the ass end.

Er yeah, love the expression "More fun than a whorehouse on dollar day" I may steal that one!

But yeah, again, put some better shocks on, raise the ass end up so it looks decent. and get some better shocks. I got mine - custom made - from YSS, after one of my Progressives blew a seal in the deserts of Central Australia.

Dump that dumb solo seat. Harley fit them to new Sportsters on the assumption that if you are such a dweeb as to by an 883 you could not possibly attract a female!

Refit the dual seat and then go out and prove them wrong......

Last and best: bore it out to 1200. I have a theory that HD make the 883 for the midlife crisis mob. (Yeah! I have a Harley! ....(but it is the smallest one).....)

Yep, nice R model. Sooner or later I'm gonna wind up with one of those. Perfect color too, orange and black.
