2013 BMW Dealer POI List US Garmin

OP NOTE: I have recently updated for 2014. Scroll down to POST 15 for the link to 2014.

Edited greatly from the original post to provide more file types in the ZIP file - Lynn

I pulled the BMW dealer list from BMW, it was dated March 2013, then spent a couple hours adding the GPS coordinates.

I have posted a ZIP file with every file type I could think of: CSV, GDB, GPI, GPX, XLS, POI, etc.

Here is the procedure if you don't know how to load this file on your Garmin custom POI list.

1) Download and extract this ZIP file onto your hard drive. http://www.lightoffshore.com/Downloa...March 2013.zip BMW Dealers March 2013.zip
2) Download and install the Garmin POI Loader from: http://www.garmin.com/us/maps/poiloader
3) Run the POI loader
4) Choose "Garmin Device"
5) next
6) Select your GPS
7) next
8) Choose "Install the New POI's onto your device"
9) Browse to the folder where you extracted the ZIP file
10) Browse to the "US BMW Dealers March 2013" folder (There is only ONE CSV file in the folder).
11) Enter "2013 BMW Dealers March 2013" into custom POI File name (should auto fill)
12) You should see that 139 custom POI's were loaded
13) On my Zumo's you can access POI's at "Where to" -> Extras -> Custom POI's

If you have a BMW branded GPS this WILL NOT replace the BMW Dealer app or associated list. I didn't want to mess with that list, so I just added under Custom POI.

I of course only checked 1/2 dozen dealers but the list seemed right.

Feedback welcome.

Lynn

GPX file available also

I have twisted this data into almost every type file you could image. Here is the gpx file if you want the dealers imported into your BaseCamp or MapSource.

Thanks! I'm actually thinking about doing this for all of Central and South America.

Thanks to both of you. I've imported this file into Basecamp. While it isn't POIs, I'll use it to load dealers into my GPS as waypoints in areas of the country I plan to ride through. Certainly more up to date than what I had from the old "McCurdy" file days.

You can load in the first file (.csv) posted as actual POIs.

This site is very restrictive on file types you can upload.
The entire zip file with many files types is over on the BMWMOA site.

Check this article: http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthre...-POI-US-Garmin

It's rather easy to do, just takes time. I used GPSVisualizer to pull all the GPS coordinates from addresses.

Saw that thanks. I just decided I'd stick with how I've done it in the past and just save them as waypoints and then only upload to the GPS the ones I might need on any particular trip. Not to say I won't "move on up" to POIs at some point.

The beauty of custom POI's on a garmin is that when you are in trouble, you just bring up the list and it will be sorted in the order of distance from your current location.
Handy when you are in a crisis and just want to know the closest.

That certainly makes sense. I think I'll give it a try.

Wink 2014 BMW Dealer POI List US Garmin

All,
I updated the data for 2014.
The source was from BMW dated January 6, 2014.

You can use the exact same procedure as in the original post, just substitute 2014 for 2013.

The updated zip file is here: http://www.lightoffshore.com/Downloa...MW Dealers.zip

The GPX file for basecamp is located in the zip file.

I have tested only a couple of locations. Let me know of any problems.

Enjoy.

Lynn

PS: If you live around Raleigh, I put the new Capitol BMW address (effective May 2, 2014).
