Man, I miss this thread.
Somehow classic cars have managed to thrive, but the dirt bikes seem to be touch and go. It makes me wonder........... when my kids are my age, will any of them care about what we experienced. It was amazing!

Really, no MX near you?

Sad, makes me wonder too. Lots of pc's animosity against mx, to the effect it has been banished to the extremities of the village.
Still retains a large following and is held twice a year in my proximity.
Guess, tough people are hard nuts to crack.
As a paramedic back then, witnessed rider with a broken leg fight us off, hop on the bike and finish the heat before giving in.

Back in September we were talking about the passing of Steve Hurd. This week I've come across across a couple of pics of Steve's wife, Jackie, when she was the monkey on a hack at the 1970 Elsinore Grand Prix. The rider is Woody Carruth:

I've posted these also over in Hacks and in the desert sleds thread, but I believe they belong here too.

I'm getting ready to restore the rig:

There will be small memorial service held for Steve Hurd (and Jim Cooke) out at the Husky Memorial on Saturday, June 22 at 11am.

Also, that sidehack rig looks very familiar! I think Woody Caruth had inherited it from my father and Roger Myrick.

They bought the Matchless from Bill Brokaw, and built the hack themselves. I believe they won the '59 and '60 National Hare and Hound Championships with it. Roger was the driver, and my father was the monkey.
