Zumo 660LM + sena smh10 + phone = crappy audio?

So i'm trying to get this setup figured out, and i pretty much bought each devices on their respective capabilities.

When i pair the Smh10 with my phone, total awesome clear audio with phone calls and playing media. However, I also wanted turn by turn nav, not really for the turn by turn, but just as a reminder if a turn is coming.

Anyways, I also got a 16gb SD card to throw in the zumo and im goign to load all my music so i wont worry about wasting batter on my phone (gps is wired to the headlight)

anyways, When I pair the cell phone and smh10 to the GPS.. the audio is shit. I did a test phone call (accepting the call through the gps) and it was very scratchy and it even cut out once or twice. Havent tried media yet.

Any ideas as the problem? or why the audio would degrade like that?

Thanks
V/R

Michael

I have the same problem. Wasted hours copying mp3's to the microSD card.I have not tested the phone through the 660 extensively but if I find that it sucks too I might have to do everything from the phone directly except for the GPS directions.

It sounds like the audio is not coming over as A2DP

A2DP is the prefered way to connect to the Garmin 66X series and get good audio.

I have a different problem with my Garmin / Scala setup I am trying to work thru with Garmin.

I would assure that how ever you connect the Sena that you assure that it is the A2DP / Stereo method.

Good luck

You might have better luck in the actual Sena SMH10 thread? - http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=562357

I haven't played around with the Zumo 660 + SMH10 + cell phone so I can't help, but there's enough people in there that have, they should be able to help.

Pair the Zumo to the Sena, pair the phone to the Zumo:

Clear all of the BT connections from the Zumo and the Phone*
Turn the phone off
Turn the Zumo on
press and hold the back (phone) button for 5 seconds the Zumo and the Sena will pair, if the Zumo asks for a pin it will be 0000
Turn Sena off
Pair the phone and Zumo, pin will be 1234 this time in the phone.

I get pretty good stereo from the Zumo, voice dialing with the smart phone, and my contacts load into the Zumo
( I had to unpair and repair the phone once or twice before the contacts showed up on the Zumo.)

*To clear the previously paired items to the Sena:
from the manual.........
1. To restore the SMH10 to factory default settings, press and hold
the Phone Button for 12 seconds until the LED shows solid red
and you hear double beeps. You will hear a voice prompt saying
“Factory reset”.
2. Within 5 seconds, press the Jog Dial to confirm reset. The headset
will be restored to factory setting and switched off automatically.
You will hear a voice prompt saying “Headset reset, good-bye”.
3. If you don’t press the Jog Dial within 5 seconds, the reset attempt is
canceled and the headset returns to stand-by mode. You will hear
a voice prompt saying, “Canceled”.

You will not get good stereo audio out of any Garmin device.

I too unfortunately only found this out after purchasing a 660 (BMW Nav IV). Have tested this with 3 NAV IVs and a 660 and no fewer than eight client devices (e.g. SMH10, Scala G4) all have the same terrible audio behavior. Use the phone.

I'm pretty sure that the Sena manual says you can pair your phone directly to the SMH10 and also pair the GPS directly to the SMH10. I'm about to try that configuration on mine.

You can if you have version 4.0 with the multi-point pairing, however the Zumo 660 will hog both the HFP & the A2DP profiles, so that only leaves one HFP profile for your phone. So basically you can't listen to music from your phone.

Because of that, I don't think the Zumo 660 will pair to the Multi-point pairing connection?

I am sharing this frustration. NaviIV, Sena and Iphone 5.
Doesn't work very well. Tried many different ways if pairing the units but haven't found a way to make it work ok yet.

Right now I have given up on using the Zumo as a hub for playing music etc. I just want to be able to receive calls and operate the phone from the Zumo.

If you pair the phone first, wouldn't that keep the 660 from grabbing the A2DP connection?

I don't have the 660, so I'm not speaking from experience, but from the posts I've read, the 660 keeps disconnecting the HFP if it can't grab the A2DP profile also?

Technically if both are paired, but you power the phone grab the A2DP first, it should work that way where it holds it, but like I said, reports say otherwise.

please like this on FB to get GArmin to fix their Bluetooth Problems

AS some of you know I am working / fighting with Garmin to get them to fix their Bluetooth issues with the Garmin 66x series..

FACEBOOK Complaint Page

I am not sure that this is going to work, but could everyone read this and support all of us and the cause to get the GARMIN issue fixed?

Please go to the facebook complaint page and like my comment and if you want, add your complaint as well.

The more of us that complain on Social media the more likely they are to fix their problems

The 66x from Garmin (which cost over $900) has a flaw that makes it unusable on the Motorcycle. The connection from the Garmin to the Bluetooth Helmet is defective and everyone could use your support in trying to convince Garmin to FIX THE PROBLEM...

Thanks in Advance.

I have a Zumo 665, I just got a SMH10 and I tried using XM with it. It sounded like ass. Oddly enough it gave the DJ and some of the vocalists lisps. I'm going to try to clear the headset and allow the Zumo to grab the stereo audio first and see if that helps. Ideally I would like to pull stereo audio from both the phone and Zumo though.

I wonder if running all this through an SR10 would solve any problems, I don't guess I need the mic input into the garmin, just stereo output, I can dial my calls through Siri just tapping the phone button on the Sena right now...
