On an actual Tenere question kind of note...

After viewing the series of photos where the Tenere bit it on the Dragon over the weekend: http://xtremesportsphotography.photo...4&g=0QAK01CZ08, I got to looking at my skid plate to see if it would touch down before my peg feelers. Then I noticed I don't have a peg feeler on the right peg.

Is this normal? Left peg has a big ol' 3/4" peg feeler on it.

Either ground off, fell off, or broke off.....

I fixed mine by adding pivot pegs.....

Yes. It has to do with when typical boxes touch down. One box is usually further out than the other.

Just another little design touch that people don't notice in reviews.

Must have fallen off. Wait... I did hit a deer on that side a few months back. I took a good shot to the foot and the bag was knocked back a few inches on that side. I bet it broke off then. Damn fragile bike.

Oh well, good reason to get those new pegs I've been wanting. Pivot Pegs, eh?

That is correct. Back in the dark ages some time an engineer at a launch was reported, believe it or not, as saying that a typical box will protrude further on the left than the right. So thay put a little feeler in there asuming that a typical owner may want to know when you are about to touch down the expensive panniers.

Look at 3:55 in this video...

That is the way they come from the factory.

I checked mine after reading this and same here...there is a feeler on the left peg but nothing on the right. There is, however, an empty threaded hole. Is it possible that it fell off?

Actually, I think it has nothing whatsoever to do with any boxes or side cases...

It has to do with the centerstand, and you can readily check this yourself. The centerstand won't touch down while cornering before the footpeg on the right side, so it gets no curb-feeler button. However, on the left side the if the curb-feeler button wasn't mounted to the footpeg the centerstand arm would touch down while cornering long before the footpeg, meaning you would get no warning before the centerstand levered your rear wheel off the ground and sent you crashing off into the bushes. With the curb-feeler button the left-peg touches down before the centerstand, giving you a warning that hard parts will hit soon that can cause a crash.

You can easily see it yourself by simply leaning your S-10 over each way in the driveway.

Just FYI...

Just passing on what I read. Maybe it is just a happy coincidence it works for both.

I knew that was coming...

There I was, moving outta' my old shop and having to haul bikes, and thought an XR1200 on a trailer with a Ducati Desmosedici would make for some cool pictures! However, I don't think my Super Tenere has ever been on a trailer of any kind...

I still wish I had bought stock in some trailer companies!

Peg feeler or whatever the heck it is, is only fitted to the left peg, nothing on the right, so no it has not fallen off, just was never there from the factory.
