No kidding!

I grabbed a price guide to Hot Wheels one day in a book store, and was flipping through it. I think I had almost all of the first few years worth! Mine got scraped up, repainted, drawn on, etc. I still have some, but they are pretty thrashed!

It seems dorkpunch has a bit of a go big or go start another project approach. Ok maybe not go big in this case, but you know what I mean!

So here you go, my first "custom" hotwheel. I think I could have spent several more hours re-doing things but it was time to call it good. As may have been mentioned a time or two, I have other projects that are getting neglected.

I think it turned out pretty good, but I have a long ways to go on the detail work.

Close ups.

Opening windows could have been a little closer...

Not bad...better than I could do by a country mile. I liked the headlights in silver.

I thought I was the only one doing this kind of stuff. Most my stuff is off road been toying with some rat rods. I will try to post some picts later however, heads up the aluminum foil tape for hvac work does best for spray painting it won't peel new paint and gives a great line. Hot Wheels are totally bitchen but man they do some dorky crap. Case in point they made a gulf sponsored chevy chevelle why didn't they do that to the aston martin. btw that ebay post was good humor

This thread made me look for one of my old favorites

I painted this to match our '75 Westfalia back when we owned it 20 years ago. It sat on the dash (and rolled out the window at speed more than once, but always found!) I just found it in a box of old leftover Westy things.

That's pretty cool!

Guess what. New project! This one I'm entering into a "competition".

Try 3M fine line masking, use the thin stuff for your edge, then regular big tape on that.

So many of their bodies are nice, but the paint jobs are just awful.
Back in the 90's When the Purple Passion Merc leadsled came out I took a couple of them apart and repainted them flat black, and detailed the interiors .

Cool projects!

Looking at all the work that goes into one of these, that eBay million-dollar price for 150 of 'em doesn't seem as outlandish as it did at first.

Love me a dorkpunch build thread.

Cool fun projects! i too have done a few customs. Nothing special, mostly color and wheel changes.
i don't have any before pics, but here are the afters

goto wallyworld, and go down to the paint section and get some "aircraft stripper" stuff works like dream on hotwheels paint, and anything else plastic. the stripped bodies only take 2 minutes or so in the stuff to remove any paint.
