Too short? I'm honestly thinking mid range distances, not really 1000 yrd stuff

I used to have a similar Savage. Shot 3/8"@100 with first batch of handloads. Should have kept it.

My 700 Tactical is excellent out to 300. Haven't shot it further out than that though.

I compete in quite a few regional and at least one national level event per year. My primary match rig is a GA Precision (GAP) HRT but I have a GAP-10 that I run on occasion depending on match distance.

If it is reasonably priced, you can't go wrong. The 308 does well in shorter barrels than some of the longer 30 cal stuff. I would be willing to bet that is a sub moa gun.

Edit: Savage 10P Tactical 308, 20" barrel, 5R rifling

will cross post a couple pics in the "love this gun" thread

That's a lot like the 10PC. You sure it's 5R and 1:10? It'll shoot fine either way. 1000y is doable! I won't lie though, my load is a little on the weak side and it was 100% hits at 800y, then 75% at 900, and at a thousand I was out of clicks and holding for wind and elevation

I have since added a 20moa base. Shooting 178gr amax loads.

on the 1k KD range:

Nice

I imagine much of the Savage stuff is similar (I hope- never had even a cheap savage really let me down)

I believe the twist is 1:10 (listed as such, it may be the 11.25) but am sure it is a 5R tube...

If I can be solid at 600 yrds or so I'll be more than happy. The stock is pretty flimsy, may need an upgrade. (at least may need a paint job)

I just sold my last 250 rnd case of 308 two days ago

I do have an unopened 250 count
box of 168 gr Nosler competition pills if you plan to load for it. My old one loved them. I would trade em for some .30 200gr+ Berger hybrids...

Should be 1 in 10. That is ideal to stabilize 175-180 grain bullets that excel at 600 yards.

Now go check out the county range in Price. 7 bucks shoot all day. 1000 yds and various other entertaining options.

first up disclaimer - i am aussie and so you might not get 'it' but its in good humour

You Bastard! you with all your good looking rifles, your all bastards!
Sure, I could get a rifle license here in AUS, but its hard, and anywhere to shoot is hard to come by.
I cycle a fair bit, off road out in the bush and there is some FANTASTIC ground (I shall post some pics after I go there next time) and I would love to hike around and stalk game, but.....
I spend money on push bikes, and just drool here, knowing that it frustrates me.
I look forward to your build thread.

from an old injury my right arm has limited my pronation/supination. instead of mounting the scope on the side getto style I built this in my spare time started with a blank 90% inletted stock. carved to fit, piller bedded, trigger, recoil pad, bipod, etc.

Black Hills .308 match 168 @ 200
