I can relate to the sound, I have Staintune Carbon cans on mine with 41 FCRs as well as an open airbox. They are loud but they make such beautiful music! I live on 10 acres and don't have any neighbours nearby so I don't feel guilty about the sound. I actually just got mine out of storage and fired it up tonight, going on a ride tomorrow! I have been riding my BMW R1100S up til now, the sun is out and its warm so its time to give the Duc a workout!

I bought my first 900ss CR in France in 1995. I put 12,000 miles on that bike in the first eight months. Loved it. When I moved back to the US I bought a 900ss Super Light in Denver and rode it to Arizona, which I admit...sucked.

The CR was one of the most enjoyable bikes I've ever owned.

I want one

I am trying to buy a 900SS. I have the hots for this bike badly. I love everything about it. All I've had are newer bikes (Moto Guzzi V7, GSX-R track bike) but I wanna take the plunge and go for this 20 year old antique because it would be badass and have so so so much of that character that I love in Ducatis and Moto Guzzi.

I work at a Ducati dealership and have ridden all of their new bikes. Every new model is more civilized, higher performing and "better", I guess, but they lose character each time. There will be no more air cooled soon!

I need to find a 900SS in the south (I live in New Orleans).

You're still young, aren't you?

A 20 year old Ducati ain't no antique! Though I'll admit the bike was yestertech fom the moment it was introduced... and is one of my all time favorite Ducatis.

Well, the carbs are on and a pair of Spark carbon fiber slip-ons replaced the stock cans. All I can say is... "Holy Sh!t!.." The carbs transformed the bike. It is a bit cold blooded due to no choke, but it doesn't take long for it to settle into idle. The cans, while louder than stock, aren't obnoxiouis. It friggin' hauls the mail.. I do know that.

I won't ride the bike as much as I'd like to, since I use my Explorer as my daily rider, but on those special occasions when I do break it out.. "Ah, yes.."

Indeed. It's Sophia Loren on wheels.

High maintenance old skool beauty that you just wanna touch.

If I can sell my Ural and get room in my shop, I'd save that poor duc.

It would be really hard to resist kicking that seller in the balls though...

It was probably ridden straight into a sausage creature at full speed and smashed to bits anyway.

Doesn't make that exhaust any better, but still.

The Autozone sourced exhaust parts are the least of it's problems...

Man, if it really worked like that I would ruin bikes for a living.

I'd like to show up on that at our Sunday morning breakfast ride location. The only problem is I'd have to ride it 75 miles to get there. It would certainly draw a crowd..

It seems that lately every knuckle-walking mouth-breathing brain-dead idiot with a hacksaw and an adjustable wrench from Harbor Frieght think they can take any bike, beautiful (like this may have been) or totally mundane (like the 77 KZ440 I recently saw butchered on CL), and bodge it up so horrifically that it is beyond belief, and then try to sell it for a price that highlights their foggy idea that they are the next great custom bike builder. It's just a shame when the bike that was mangled was one of these.
