Long term and in-house storage

Just closing up the deal on buying a really big new project,
or my first house - old school too, built in 1800.

I don't see myself tending to certain things,
as much as I'd like to.
Like my CA77 for example.

My lady is sweet enough to say
it can bed itself in the living room
of our new place.

So I ask you,
how to best prep an old steed:
1) for longish storage, and
2) to not be stinky,
so as to not upset the mrs.

?

I'm figuring;
drain the tank,
fog the cyls,
and clean it well.

Missing anything?

When I lived outside Athens, GA back in the day (circa '87 or so) "mojo" my beloved 1966 R60/2 lived in the dining room. It stayed there all winter. Peacocks off and closed. Battery stayed connected, but the key was hidden.

I put a board down to protect the hardwood floors. A stool (5 gallon paint bucket wit seat...you can find them at Lowes or Home Depot under $10) kept my wax and semi chrome out of sight.

At Christmas it got lights. I spent long hours listening to music shining and polishing the old girl. Even today, I can see what a difference it has made all these years later.

Until I sold my H2B 18 months ago, it got stored (when not insured) in the dining room. As previously mentioned, a nice board as a pedestal adds a touch of class. I routed the edges and stained/finished an oak platform. As for prepping the bike, drain all the fuel from the tank, carbs and petcock. leave the fuel cap open (in a garage or protected area) for a couple of weeks before dragging it in the house. Lubricate the petcock so the rubber doesn't tear when it comes time to resurrect the bike. Fog the cylinders as you mentioned, or kick it over with a squirt of engine oil in the top end. Remove the battery for storage. Give the bike a thorough cleaning/polishing/waxing. Apply some tire-black on the tire sidewalls. Finally, put some cap-plugs in the tail pipe to control any residual odors.

prettymuch what Mach Z said above...

i've stored a couple bikes inside, long term. both in my living room... one on the mantle above the fire place.
one of them was a harley, so you'd expect leaks.

drain all fluids
drain the carb(s)
let the fuel tank air out for a few days
replaced the rubber fuel line (rubber wreaks of fuel)
squirt of oil in each cylinder
very thorough wash, dry, wax
spray the motor down with Gibbs (reasonably odorless "aerospace" oil)
exhaust plug(s)
carb plug/cap (i used aluminized tape, taped the mouth of the carb)

and one i got from a greybeard; throw a little ATF in the gas tank. open the petcock. let it into the carb. it'll keep the carb & petcock from gumming up/corroding, keeps residual fuel odors at bay.

the harley sat for a couple years like this, nobody ever mentioned any odors.

when it came time to start the bikes up after their slumber... add oil, flush tank/carb with a quart of gas (the ATF washes away easily). fire it up.

that's where the odors started. i may have been pretty drunk and fired it up he harley in the living room, rode it out of the house.

Mine lives in the Family Room.....
Gas drained, still has oil in cases cause Yamahas don't leak.
Push the KS lever thru every couple weeks to keep the seal from stickin...

I'd drain the tank, rinse it out with a bit of acetone and leave it out in the sun for a day or so. Maybe blow it out with some compressed air as well. Drain the carbs and rinse the residual gas out of them as well. A small amount of gas can make quite a stink for quite a while.
