Need replacement gaskets for Jesse Bags

My new to me '05 GS came with Jesse panners. I suspect they are the original Odyssey's since the lid hinge is not in the same place as they show on the Odysset II's on the site. Before I call Jesse is there another (better) gasket material for the Odyssey's than what he uses. The present gaskets are pretty torn up and I doubt they'd keep out a heavy mist (no idea what the PO's did with these things, don't fault Jesse for this).

Also, it seems like the new hinges are a little more robust (I'm sure there's a reason he changed styles), should I swap those out too or is it not worth the effort?

Thanks, did a search but you know how that works.....

you know, since 47 people read your post before I did, I wonder why nobody thought to tell you that what Al most likely uses now is not the same as what he used on the original bags. Your bike may be an '05 but I have no idea what year the bags were made. Most of us that have had the need for replacement parts or advice from Al over the years have been impressed with his level of service.

Yes, you could find something at an auto parts store or McMaster-Carr, but try giving them a call first.

Maybe some photos of your hinges would help too...

Thanks, they're closed (or at least don't answer calls) on Fri. per their voicemail (I don't blame them in the least). Sent them an email.

Was just checking if someone had stumbled on a bigger/better/faster product, not like we all stay OE/OEM with everything on our bikes.

You can find it here:

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/64...stripping.html

Personally I would use an adhesive type like I did on mine:

Jim.....
With this different gasket have you had better luck with the bags not leaking? I have the same style cases and bought replacement gaskets from xplorermoto and they still flipping leaked. Tried caulking at the joint, use a grease on the gasket, every thing that people said worked for them to stop leaks. Nothing seems to really work. I was thinking maybe this type gasket changed how the seal fit up and helped stop what I feel is most likely weeping issues that causes the bags to leak.

I am eyeballing the Safari cases just because of the slant at the seal surface, can't help but think that won't be an aide in stopping the cases from leaking.

I love the Jesse Cases, damn near bullet proof, saved me from pain and damage on many an offroad adventure, but I am tired of them leaking when it gets wet out!!

Thanks,!!!!!!!

Great info on the aftermarket gaskets! I have the same bags, which have been great, but needed new gaskets. Due to a cock up with ordering Al sent me them at no charge however they're already split on some corners.

I'll give the ones JVB posted a try...

They worked fine on my Jesses. I don't have much rain experience on my Kirk's yet.

Thanks Jim!! I ordered the gasket from the eBay listing yesterday. Heading to New Foundland in August and hope to have the leaking stopped. I have the custom fit bags the xplorermoto made, have been thinking finding someone to put a waterproof coating on them or use as a pattern to make a waterproof bag.

I do with it wasn't almost 1100 miles to your place, the Tech Day sounds fun!!!!

Has anyone repaired a Safari bag seal?

One of my corners is looking suspect and I can't even see how the original seals are attached. Are they glued on?
