Used Vstrom 1000 what should I watch out for

I'm looking at getting a used vstrom dl1000 this summer.I plan to spend around$5000 give or take..
I'm looking for information on what i should watch out for..
How long is the motor and drive train good for?
Any problems in the various years?
Bearings or seals that may leak.
Any factory recalls
Stuff like that.

If you have one for sale in western Canada I'm interested in that too.
(But I'm poor so no dealer pricing)

If you're willing to do a Fly and Ride... Mine is for sale in Nova Scotia!

As far as the DL1000s go, many years experience a stumble at around the 3600 rpm mark. Various fixes include PowerCommanders or reflashing the ECU.

There is also a clutch chudder, but apparently it causes no problems an many just live with it. The fix is to replace the clutch basket.

Many have gotten 150,000 miles + from their DLs with proper care and maintenance.

The drive trains are fairly rock solid. Chains and Sprokets are consumables, so you will replace them.

The DL1000s are relatively unchanged through the years. I've put over 50,000km on mine in just over two years - I've changed oil, flashed the ECU, done the chain and sprockets and replaced the brake pads.

If you ARE interested, check my ad in the Canadian Flea Market - I'd be willing to cut a pretty good deal for a fellow Inmate.

Don't worry about a thing. You will wear out befre the bike does.

I picked up an '06 model this spring from the local dealer. It had 27000kms on it. The infamous clutch chudder is present, however it is something I can live with at the moment, and mine stumbles around the 2500rpm range, which is no big deal for me because I find that almost too low an RPM to ride at. 3000 and above seems to be it's happy spot. I have close to 2000kms on it, and so far so good. Best bike I've owned.

Really comfortable, great on the highway, great on dirt roads. Everything I wanted in a bike.

A Scott chain oiler buys the chain a sprockets a lot of time. I had one on a DL1000 in New Zealand, rode 10,000, and didn,t need any adjustment.

Watch out for Fiat 500's running you down from behind on freeway on-ramps
