State buys 50k acres....

http://www.yakimaherald.com/news/yhr...cres-of-forest

Not much in the mainstream news but here is some more info about it, not sure if anyone else knows more. Just what I was afraid of, its the teanaway area..... Looks like Discover passes are in our future.... I wouldnt be surprised if they ban motor vehicles as well since spotted owls were mentioned.... lets keep our fingers crossed we dont lose this area..

With the State's perpetual budget crisis sucking that much coin out the budget may not happen any time soon.

Tod, Are you saying that this will likely not happen or at least be postponed because of the current budget fiasco?

Is part of the reason the timber company wants to sell because of the fire damage dimishing timber value?

Really don't want to see all of Teanaway turned into a giant aquafir and all humans banished.

Hard to say with certainty, but money will likely be the biggest issue that may stall the process.

This article seems to indicate that the purchase money has been budgeted.

Amazing.

They totally screw over the State Parks we already have and then throw millions at something they have no money to manage.

Your tax dollars at work.

Hey guess what:

I went from making $48k a year at a job I had for 5 years and liked alot 4 years ago to one day getting called into the office along with 9 other of our department's employees where the boss tells us "We're folding up the department, hand in your company cell phones and credit cards and good luck out there." No severance package, nothing. After two years of unemployment I finally found a decent job and took an $18k pay cut in the process.

Cry alot of people in my same situation a river out-of-touch-with-reality teacher.

It's an area of private property that is closed to motorized use now except for some access across it to USFS or other private land. I'm sure the state will figure out a way to screw it up worse though.

Uhhhhhhhh, Yeah - you'll need a DISCOVER PASS to access the access road to get to the gated road that states "closed to Motorcycles !" Good luck ! ! ! ! !

I just read about a Teachers Without Cost Of Living Pay Raises Pass (aka TWCOLPR Pass) that are available to teachers in WA who haven't had a COL increase in 6+ years that supercedes all other WA passes. Supposed to go right over the WA Disco Pass. And rumor has it that WA teachers can plate any bike they want to?

Might wanna check that one out...

Shit, There quite a bit of old growth out there worth mega bank, however, the threat of fire makes the long term investment a little more shaky.

I personally am not too worried about the state acquisition of the land. But the Yakima Valley water plan that wants to multiply the size of the current reservoir. Flooding most of the awesome areas down there.
