Can't see his fingers on the right hand so it's anyones guess but somewhere on this site it has all ready been established Harley riders are deathly afraid of the front brake, it's safe to assume he is too. Rear brake, maybe, if he has a heel rocker brake pedal, his right foot is pointing outward on highway pegs. That leaves the option of the rare but highly sought after customized left side brake pedal, oh wait can't see that either....
I was talking to some guys I was doing a show with, both casual cruiser riders (metric, not Harley). I was in the middle of my MSF course, and we were discussing riding. When I mentioned that the MSF says that 70% of the breaking power comes from the front they both seemed worried for my safety and told me that if I used the front break, I would be tossed right over the handlebars.

I've seen the video and it's just tail pipe flames.

Yup, there are independent manual brakes for a reason. (I only know this 'cuz I've been reading on it since the accident, I have no train operating experience.) AND - Wiki is saying that the engineer knew the engine that was left running was spitting oil and smoking heavily before he left it unattended as the only source of power for the air brakes.....

Well spotted on both counts - Here's a higher resolution crop.

He may not have been braking but was doing no more than 25 mph anyway
