I can't believe no one has posted this yet.

This (in my opinion) looks so much better than what the production bike looks like, I can't believe it. And it pisses me off, that we could have had this. Currently the Brutale 800 is my favorite naked, and this would have been a match for it, looks wise. I know design, and well... everything is subjective, but come on the Euro's know how to make beautifull bikes (cars too). And this has a Euro flavor to it. What were they (Yamaha) thinking!!!!

Sorry about the abnormally large post, not sure why.

It has a kinda twisted Diavel/V-Rod look to the front end.

Too much Agusta Brutale on that sketch...i guess they had to move away from it little bit more. Imho, only the color scheme should be better, except the matte grey...beautiful.

+1 on the Brutale look. After seeing this, I'm glad that Yamaha didn't clone it. FZ, not a ST3, not a Brutale, it's all Yamaha... Well, mostly. I like the diamond frame. The trellis frame is becoming all too common, even though it is a fantastic concept. tomp

There are a lot of people comparing this bike to Triumph's Triple... But I honestly don't think they are even in the same market segment.
Maybe my view is biased because of my plan to purchase a NC700X. But think about it... Honda is really aggressive lately with several models that are reasonably priced and I bet honda is kicking other Japanese manufacturers in market share.
This bike is priced at $7990, costing only $500 more than Honda NC700X, but you are getting a lot more motorcycle. More horsepower, more torque, ABS, drive modes, adjustable suspensions, dual front discs... For just $500 more.

As a potential NC700X buyer, I am definitely reconsidering my options.

I haven't had a chance to meet a potential NC700X buyer, so your opinion is interesting. My circle of rider friends and I all see the 472lbs + 48hp + lots-o-plastic of the NC and scratch our heads wondering who Honda is trying to sell to, because it isn't any of us.

This FZ however has everyone waiting with baited breath, checking the web daily for any new info. I personally haven't been this excited for a new bike in years. The first bike I would consider actually buying new, never done that because I rotate through them so fast.

So I had thought they were going after different market segments, Honda the reasonable, responsible, reliable transportation appliance rider, and Yamaha the affordable, reliable, yet passionate enthusiast market. I had kind of assumed there would be little cross shopping these completely different bikes, so thanks for chiming in!

I would love to see some sales numbers as things develop to see which one pegged the motorcycle market more accurately.

So - September release for the naked. Wonder if the big shows in November will have some more variants?

If they build a baby FJR and keep it priced around $9999 it will go like hot cakes. I like the BAR mock-up, looks good.

What am I suppose to do with my $22K 1200RT? An "FZR-ST would be a fun bike, but I think the nekked version or maybe a 1/2 faired version will still be my choice.

The August issue of Motorcycle Consumer News Magazine has a two page first impressions article on the FZ. All in all, they say basically great things and that it's worth the wait to own one. Did learn that the bike has monoblock brake calipers and are very impressive.... Guess we'll see in a few months...tomp dd50
