A380 had its share of teething issues IIRC but nothing major.

I heard this was a galley fire. Crew forgot to turn off an oven or something.

I am not sure how much of the 787 fuselage is composite, a good percentage is, it might be 100%. There's a good chance this one at LHR might well be toast, er, a complete write-off.

The story is some carriers have held off ordering the 787 just to see how the "that will buff right out" cliche is resolved.

If you view the panorama in the link, up on the roof where it looks like an escape hatch, there is a gadget thing there, is that where a sextant attaches to do a star shot to aid in navigation?
