Here's an idea for a good simulation:
take your DRZ
add about 300 pounds of weight to it (kinda like handicapping a race horse)
put some slick tires on it

My DRZ is way used to having nearly 300 lbs on it, and for the record I used to race the Clydsdale class in MTB races
Try a 600lb bike AND a "chunky monkey". Louie Lake looks challenging however you need to add running water coming down the trail and nothing but loose gravel/boulders for traction.

Silverspurs, at Boulder Basin I got past the scree slope with no issues. It is the damn wet loose rock that took its toll.

I'm proud of you for even trying it on your beast... I had my doubts after you and I tried it last year, but after seeing Jasons report on his (successful??) Attempt with his wife....

I knew I wouldn't be trying it again on anything bigger than a DRZ...

You guys amaze me!!

Did he just pick up a Tiger XC? Seems he just joined BRAT.

Great video!
After your trip last year 2up I was in awe as I have been since starting to see your pics and videos for the past few years.

I hiked to Boulder City about 15 years ago with my daughter and wife on a whim, you know a bicycle water bottle and camera and lets go. I remember the start, the scree field climb and a big ditch just before the meadow. We only went to the first remains of the city. The best part was making it back to the car.

Daxm, good on you for attempting it!

I am so jealous! Thank you for making my defeat look not as bad as it was. :-)

If you can imagine it that scree slope you did the next morning is where my Jeep ran out of gas all those years ago.

You are such a great rider. I hope to be able to keep up with you the next time we go out.

I see why it's called Boulder Basin. The boulder to dirt ratio is a little high in favor of the boulders. Looks like a nice place to camp.

Jason,

Looks like fun.

I was able to watch about half the video before I became frustrated with my IE10. For some reason, it keeps crashing while watching videos. I love the unwanted upgrade that was pushed on me.

You 500 is looking good. What rack is that?

well, that settles it... I'm not going in there with anything bigger than my Tw 200... at least I can LIFT that over the boulders!

Great video... looks like Boulder City is worth the effort if you can get there...
