As for the "gay" comment, I am still waiting to hear back on that one...
Being a N0ob has little to do with post count, and a lot to do with attitude, understanding the way of things and maturity.

I highly doubt you will find a more knowledgeable community of helpful people! I doubt more than a few with personal issues will abandon the site for lack of divided forums.

IMHO it would probably be a good idea, the bike is vastly different for one, it would also keep the members that have zero interest in the LC model from having to wade through the greatly increasing numbers of posts on them, it would also enable the people that have interest in the bike to easily find the posts in a convenient place.
If we don't seperate the bikes threads, there will probably become a time that we would have wished we did.
This from the man (or woman?) who vehemently defends threads about earphones, riding attire, sewing circles, and cappuccinos, all mixed in with "GS Boxers"? Astounding!
Get your story straight, would ya?

Edit; "straight" was not intended as a slur to anyone, real or imagined

I decided to post a poll just to see what everyones feeling on the matter is. I was just trying to get some info on the new water cooled bike and it was a pita to go thru 684 posts!
In my humble opinion the new wetheads are a complete new motor ie clutch, trans, water etc etc. and would seem logical that when you clicked on GSpot that it could have its own subtitle, Boxers, parallel universe and Wetheads?
Not that it means they are right but the MOA site has it broken down that way and of course at first traffic and posts were light but now quite a difference?
What happens in acouple months when there are over a thosand posts you have to sift thru??

Is it worth a poll???

how about by "year" also. for instance if I want to adjust my valves on an 09 do I do the same as on an '11?

how about changing the final drive lube? do I change my 09 the same as somebody with an 05'?

in all honesty I think they should indeed have THREE BMW "GS" forums.

- Boxer
- Parallel
- Thumper

and yes I know there is a separate "thumper" already... but they should be listed as such under GSpot.

I just checked the first page of gspot. The following terms were used in titles of different threads.
GS LC
GSW
R1200GSA
GS-W
Liquid cooled R1200GS
1150GS
Water cooled
R1150GS
2005 GS
2007 GSA
R1200GS
cam head
1200GS
1150 GS
R1200GS LC
R1200 GS/LC
R1200GSW
R1150 GSA
09 GSA
GS
GSA

My point being that there is no uniformity of terminology and its no wonder no one can ever find anything even with a search.

I don't know. Probably never be able to get anyone to adhere to it. Also then there is the whole hex head camhead differences.
No noob reads the rules anyhow and starts a new thread before even looking into the history files. That is why they're tons of oil threads etc. Like GB said: if it's new(s) to you it has to be new(s) to everyone...

Don't get me wrong your idea is great but stays an utopia =/

You are correct when you say people need to develop thicker skins if they want to hang out on the inter webs.

Political correctness isn't a cancer. It's a term word smithed to justify conversations that show a lack of respect for their fellow humans.
Nope. Dissect it. Substitute another subject and see, e.g., "sounds like a band saw cutting through metal" is not a slur on band saws. The mere mention of something is not pejorative[1]. On top of that, there was a reference to a popular comedy show and how it handled similar subject matter, and AFAIK was never accused of casting aspersions.

[1] Except in the topsy-turvy world of political correctness, where entire topics and diversity of opinion are forbidden.

Oil forum has precedence over liquid cool given the magnitude of discussions in GSpot.

You know, everytime there's a new multicylindered adventure bike released, they don't make a new subforum about it here.

I would hazard a guess that there are more Vstrom, more Super Tenere, and more Tiger 800 owners for each bike than there are WC owners right now. None of them get their own subforum. The only reasons reason late model boxer engined BMW's get their own subforum is 1. Tradition 2. There are lot of archived posts from the past when it was practically the only adventure style bike in existence. and 3. BMW owners annoy the crap out of everyone else.

Someone said something along these lines when one of these threads came around previously.

When the R1200 came out, there was still a lot of discussion about the 1150. Eventually the 1150 threads quieted down, and the R1200 was pretty much the defacto bike of discussion. Well, eventually the WC will be more popular, and the oil cooled bike threads will quiet down, and leave the WC bikes of the general bike of discussion.

It wont take that long, a lot of people are waiting on the Adventure version to be released (who will probably complain about being lumped in with the standard WC GS and want their own subforums), and a lot of people are waiting on any major flaws to be discovered and sorted out. It the meantime I'm sure there are all kind of WC specific forums on other sites, just like there are for every single other bike, you can go to those places if you feel mixing with the ancients is intolerable. Or you can just go ride your bike until you have a problem or something worth posting, and then come here.

Is it time for a new subforum for the requests for new subforums?

It would certainly improve the lives of those of us with the desire toread about requests for new subforums, and allow us to avoid slogging through all these icky threads about motorcycles. Maybe I should make a poll! Who's with me?
