Question Real or hoax GS LC

Anyone heard of this? Hoax? A Vanos or variable valve timing is in the works for the current GS LC. Seems to early in current production to introduce this, but why the leak? I don't know how can I load the article here.

You need to be a bit more specific.
The 2013 GS Watercooled aka K50 is neither new nor a hoax.
I guess maybe you are talking about something else?
-2014 GSA?
EDIT:
I saw you just edited your post...
The new variable timing head may be something coming sometime later.
The pics I have seen, I do not believe are quite true...
There is probably enough room in there for this, but I do not think we will see this for a few years yet.

Possibly a test mule although BMW is denying it. Who says its coming into production? BMW must test all kinds of stuff, many things far, far in advance of introduction and sometimes not even on the bikes they'll be introduced on. I wouldn't doubt that VANOS makes it into BMW bikes at some point in the future though,...perhaps a mid cycle refresh for the GS in a few years.

great - a GS with even more power. What's the bet it gets a 240 section tyre by the end of the decade and is completely unusable outside a racetrack?

unless of course they keep up their current strategy of fixing everything with more and more driver aids so it behaves like a stealth plane without the flight computer.

Variable valve timing can be used to help reduce exhaust emissions as well as boost performance.

Even though I've heard nothing about VVT on a GS, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see it in the next few years.
Performance and economy enhancements along with reduced emissions via variable valve timing and another primary reason for the technology is to reduce noise, vibration and harshness, engines with aggressive cam profiles usually idle poorly and only perform well within a limited RPM range, VVT optimizes the power band and smoothness.

Compare to Apple registering all sorts of strange patents which get the forums all fired up in speculation... sometimes the patents don't end up in a product for years or decades, if at all.

Based on history, it would be highly unusual for BMW to make a substantial change to the engine one or two years after it was introduced (four years is typical), as someone else mentioned they undoubtedly test/develop new tech all the time, some of which will be introduced into products in future, others might be simply abandoned.

Seems reasonable that variable valve timing will one day make it into some of their bikes as it is a proven and reliable technology in their car engines, but consider they started work on the water cooled 1200 six years before its late 2012 introduction.

My current engine already overpowers the rear tire on some of our (less then perfect) roads.

I don't find it surprising that BMW might have test mules out there roaming around with various engines. We all know BMW loves technology and must therefore be trying out different things as it decides the future technical direction of products. Whether this one will meet with approval for production is anyone's guess.
