Finished installing the subpanel in the garage. Nice to finally get some 220v in there to power the compressor.

Just need to pick up a welder.

That HF TIG is tempting.

Not exactly sure what it is; just got an inquiry from a fellow ADVer & a print.
A few emails later & some $ and then voila;
Part is 1.25" thick aluminum.

Cleaned it, Then installed a couple more shelves to get some stuff up off the floor. Then put new F/R tires on the FZ1 and new F/R Sprockets and chain on the DRZ.

Not in the garage but at work on grave shift Friday. Brought in a gloss black powder coated CRF-450x front hub and laced it up to a black Excel rim with Buchanan stainless spokes. Had to do something with all the time I sit here. Hell, I'm at work right now. sitting on my ass.

Yup, talked to buyer today, for an SV-650 to be bored out by him for whatever bushings he selects.
Since the CAD data came from him I considered it 'his', but he said today he's cool with making for who-ever else wants one.

On to other garage / shop projects now; ......

Putting a new rear tire on the Vstrom, a Shinko 705. Really a great all around tire. AND a new rear sprocket AND whatever else comes up...UG.

All done. Waiting until Sunday for a great ride hopefully.

Put in a new radiator for my truck, new lower hose and radiator cap. Fired it up and no leaks (yet).

Had to go to a car show first this morning. Burnout contest later this afternoon I plan on attending...

Honda XR600's

What else, XR600 building.

I have XR600's on the brain.



I am building one for a guy at work. He wants SF Giants colors. Orange and Black. I have painted the frame gloss black epoxy. A backyard job but it came out fine. The engine has been freshened up with a couple transmission gears being replaced and a hone and ring job to top it off. I blasted the clutch and stator covers and painted them Dupli Color ceramic engine silver. This is the engine on the right in the pic above.

The next one will be the Black Beauty.

And then there is a third XR that I have yet to delve into the engine.

This bike and the Black Beauty are both PLATED!!!

I just finished this bike. Transmission gears bad, new Wiseco 98mm 11.5 CR piston and an Engine Dynamic's valve job. I spent ALL of yesterday and most of today to get it to this point.



I had the owner come over and after a bit of persuasion it fired up. It is also plated. The next step will be making it road worthy, turn and brake lights and so on.

Removed the charcoal canister from my '04 RT. changed the oil and added a new set of bar backs to go with the new to me Russel Day Long. That's a big day for me.

I fixed the *#%&ing BMW locking gas cap.

I've done lots of mods and fixes to my 2007 BMW G650X Challenge. Jans and Franz at BMW for some reason do some really stupid things, one of those is putting a locking gas cap on what was supposed to be an "off-the-showroom-floor race bike." I've just dealt with it for years. My friend that went riding with me happens to be a better idiot than me.

What the problem involves is the off-center key location seems to be too much for some people to handle. When you remove the gas cap, you have to move the key circumferentially around the gas cap, not just twist it around the central axis.

Long story short, my friend bends the key in the lock mechanism because "I've never seen one like that before."

I get home and decide to remedy the problem. First, you remove the lock cylinder:



From the lock cylinder, you see that it is held in place by the top lip of the keyhole end, and a pin at the bottom. There is a spring that the pin holds down to keep the whole mechanism from falling out. I was suprised that my gas tank is only sealed with a 0.375" ID o-ring under semi-compression.

After making a rough sketch, cutting a piece of material, using a bit of time on a decent size lathe at work, then making a few "adjustments" with my mini mill +rotary table, and drilling the retaining pin hole, you end up with:





I need to make another one from some smaller starting stock (7/8" instead of 1" diameter) and not mash up the D-ring when putting it in the lock cylinder replacement. But it looks OK when installed on the bike:
