Garmin 60cs external power question

Can anyone tell me, when my Garmin 60cs is powered by the 4pin connector, if I fit rechargeable in the the unit itself, will they get charged up by the external power adapter while using the unit to navigate etc.

No.The batteries have to be charged in an external charger.

I find the major advantage of plugging into 12 volt power is the screen backlight stays on all the time.

Me too... But, I do believe that with batteries you can select it to always be on also, but not practical. Lithium AA's last a long time as temporary batteries when off the bike.
