If I could buy one, I'd probably be too busy riding to put up pitchers...

They have to make it so that you can upload from phones.

Here's a couple of my new to me SMT. I like it. But, it's too nice to really motard it. I hate to get it dirty.

My SMT on Mont Ventoux. Great bike, threw me off once, I was safe but cost me thousands.

Reliability? Expense to maintain?

For you long time owners. How is the reliabilty? And how often are major "shop" type adjustments or check ups? Such as valve checks and stuff...

Windshields?

Do they make a windshield for the SMT which enables you to wear a half helmet? I normally wear a full face helmet, but while touring and putting in long days the half helmet is very convenient for me...

The Givi SMT screen is big enough, but after my recent fall I would not be here if I had a half helmet. Better safe than sorry IMHO.

Not super long time, but I have about 15,000 miles on mine. Do all the maintenance myself. Valve checks are every 9300 miles (15,000 kilometers). Mine were completely in spec and all at the far end of the range when I checked so suspect it won't need a shim for awhile.

Only "reliability" issue I found is the dealer appears to have put DOT4 in the hydraulic clutch rather than mineral oil. It was starting to degrade the rubber parts. Been fine since I thoroughly flushed it out and put mineral oil in. Other than that the bike has been flawless.

That was one of my major considerations before I bought an SMT as well. After checking out the 100,000 mile thread I was convinced. Lots of guys with with over that mileage with only a regularly changed water pump seal. One older 950 with over 230,000 miles. The engine (950/990) seems pretty robust. A trait that I'm curious to see in the new 1190 engine.

Over 4000 miles on my 2012 from nearly new.
100% reliable no problems.
Mechanic friend of mine checked the compression on a tuned SuperDuke that had done 80,000 miles, said it was very good, still high. That's almost the same engine as the SMT.

SMT vs Tiger 1050 or explorer 1200

I'm torn between wanting the SMT, the tiger 1050 and the tiger 1200...

I was looking at the Tigers as well. Those are nice bikes and much easier to find, but ride them both and there's no compairison at all. Suspension on the SMT sold me.

In rual western WI you'll often run into amazing twisty roads with really crappy pavment. I've never found a bike that excells more in this enviroment than the SMT. My prevous ride was a GSA with Ohlins front and rear which handeled very well, but the SMT is sooooooo much more fun

What about power compared to the 1050?
