Planning a trip across Canada

Hi
I am planning a trip across Canada, And i was hoping for some input on some must see destinations.

I am planning on heading east from my home in Alberta, and going all the way to Newfoundland. Im planning about 5 to 6 weeks round trip, starting about the second week of june 2014. I plan on getting off of the #1, and picking my way across secondary highways whenever possible. I will be making a route up as i go, but i dont want to be traveling and find out i missed some sort of fantastic event that i would have loved to see.

I may be riding solo, or with a female friend of mine, each on our own bike. We are not too sure if our schedules will line up.

I am hoping to get some input on some places across this great country, that i just have to visit. So far the list is short, but includes:

Niagara Falls
Bay of Fundy
Many places on the rock.
Possibly the Just for laughs festival in Montreal (if dates work out)
Old Quebec city
Winnipeg

I am kind of a history freak, and never pass up the chance to see some significant historical sights. i am also fairly young, and do like to hit up a good party. so any suggestion of a "must see" would be appreciated, and researched further.

I am leaving myself plenty of time to travel, And if the trip lasts longer than 6 weeks, Oh well. I might leave my bike in storage, and fly back to work, and continue the trip when my shift ends. I think donating a summer to travel would be well worth it.
Thanks in advance.

When you travel between montreal and quebec city, take the 40 (not the 20) a d just before you get to Trois Rivieres, head north to catch the 351 and make your way to the Parc de la Mauricie. Its a 2 hour detour but its worth it. Better if you come thru on a weekday.

Dont hesitate to pm me when youll be coming thru.

Thanks for the replies.

I guess nobody else across Canada has any places to recommend. Might as well stay home. Ha.
I am going to re post this on the Canada regional forum to hopefully get more recommendations.

Take it easy it is summer and everybody is out riding, if you get to Nova Scotia drop me a line, I live right on the Bay of Fundy and your welcome to stay. For Nova Scotia go to the government tourism website they have a motorcycle guide for touring the province and itès free. So much to see here so little time.

Bay of Fundy and Annapolis Valley
All along the south shore
take the sunrise trail on the north shore
Halifax waterfront area
Citadel Hill in Halifax
The Pubs of Halifax
go see Ecum Secum and Tecum Nek just for the names
ride the Cabot Trail both ways
go to Louisburg Fortress
ride the rest of Cape Breton
ride out to Canso, not much there but I love the area
Digby, world famous for its clams
Yarmouth, a great little town

all these just for starters

Cheers Slowphil

Peggy's Cove was cool.
Last month, I rode along the St. Lawrence to Gaspé and Percé. Google "Percé Rocks." It was a great ride.
Have fun.

Looks like you have the places I hit on your list that are worth checking out. Halifax is very cool as recommended. The ride along Lake Superior is a lot of fun. The confederation bridge was a must do for me.

I would suggest checking out the cathedral in Montreal but I still think the highlight of my trip was old Quebec City and hanging out with my buddy in Toronto.

The Rock. Hope you have lots of time. We have our own time zone for a reason.
Rose Blanche ,Port au Port, Gros Morne, the Table Lands to Trout river and Lance aux Meadows. You still have not gotten off the west side of the island.
I have heard we have an accent that requires some time to adjust to as well.

If I still had every dollar I spent on motorbikes I would be a richer man but a poorer person.

North of the lakes?

Are you planning to go north of the great lakes, both ways or are you planning to do the Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan route one way?

Thanks for the replys, guys.

I havent finalized a route. But i think im going to keep to a Canadian route.

I may cross the border at some time to visit some of the eastern states, But i think a cross Canada tour should be just that.

Im going to check out as many motorcycle guides as i can, Thats a great suggestion. Luckily i still have lots of time to plan. Once i finally get out of work. I am working a week of OT, so i havent had much free time lately.
