690 Enduro R only starts in neutral, not with clutch in

Hi,
As the title states, my 2013 690R does not allow the starter to engage when in gear and the clutch in. I used to be able to start in gear with the clutch in, but now I have to put the transmission in neutral for it to start.
Any ideas what this could be?
Thanks in advance.

Probably the safety switch on the clutch lever is out of service, causing the bike to think the clutch is not disengaged. There is probably a wire coming off of it going "somewhere". Follow that wire and unplug it. See if it effects the operation. If not it may require a jumper wire. Basically making the bike think the switch is working, or go buy a new switch.
