She still has huge gaps in memory, but a few things are starting to come back. Thanks for all the kind thoughts. Back over to the Hospital again Thursday night. Stay safe and watch out for idiots.

for those folks who mentioned lawyers, the underinsured motorist who turned into Laurie's path is a barmaid, with no real means or property, the best we could recover from her is community service in Drivers Ed classes in lieu of jail time. To prevent this happening again even once is worth more than the few dollars we might recover garnishing her wages in a civil action.
Man, that's great to hear that she's talking and making sense. I'm pretty jazzed to hear this. Concering the driver, I've got to say that a pretty bummer deal but the way you see things with the driver, is pretty damn amazing and upstanding. I hope she can be used to educate large number of drivers.

Great News! as for the driver, same here, use her to teach others that driving a vehicle is a big responsibility.

Keep us updated on her recovery.

Best wishes and prays for her recovery. It soudns like she is a strong person and determined so there is hope for a great recovery. One year ago my cousin was in a crash in his cage and wasn't wearing a seatbelt. The end result was a Chevy Tahoe flipped over and literally parked on his head. The tahoe was on his head for quite a while before they were able to lift it and get him in a helicopter...

....fast forward to this year and despite severe TBI he has recovered well. He was not expected to live 24 hours and just last month to celebrate his one year anniversary of the crash we were out fishing and shooting together!Today he is thankful for everything in life and is part of a support group for other folks with Tramatic Brain Injuries.

My point is, keep up the faith, stay strong and supportive and always think positive thoughts.

Glad she's a fighter.

Hope you had uninsured motorist coverage. At least 250-500K. It's cheap to add it on to most policies. You can have your own carrier pay the damages, they intern will do what they have to do to little miss I can't drive.

Icebox, thanks for the update. There are a lot of us up here on ADVrider who are following this wanting to hear how she is doing. Hang in there and don't be impatient with her recovery. It takes time.

Recovery

Some good news and some not so good news this last week. The good news, on last Wednesday I got a call and was suprised to hear Laurie on the other end, and she called again last night, this time on her own phone, she was in a good mood, positive, and was making more sense. So the head is coming around. Then this morning the doctors decided that the abdominal swelling wasn't coming down enough and decided to do some more scans. Turns out her bladder is torn in two places. So three drains were placed directly to the kidneys to bypass the bladder to give it a better chance to heal. The surgical team thought that further abdominal surgery at this time would be to invasive in her current condition. So back on narcotics again, which slows down the head healing. Just as she sems to gain a bit of steam another setback pops up. My job is to stay positive and provide moral support, gets hard at times. We are lucky her sister just retired and can cover Monday through Thursday, I get Friday through Sunday. Right now I am thinking that women are a lot tougher than us guys. Three days fries me, not sure how her sister does four. Thanks again, be safe and watch out for idiots, and don't be one.
